For years I wondered about connecting the other track to the intersections. Pictured is what I believed would be a problem and it has come true. Since the intersections connect on the sides too, there is no flex to connect the other pieces to the ends. The connecting area blocks the connection. This track has a connecting TAB issue where they break off. So trying to flex the intersections are a risk.

THE FIX is to connect a 6 or 9 inch on each end of the intersection BEFORE connecting the intersections side to side. The 6 or 9 inch raises up a little enough to easily allow connecting more track. Bought a pair of these on eBay to assist in locking connections...

Ignoring the obvious problems with Tyco's locking-tabs, that looks like a bit of a design flaw that the Tyco staff overlooked...or maybe they just weren't anticipating anyone to make a four-lane intersection. Clever fix on your part though.

How are the tools supposed to work?

The tool works as pictured, Eric. By turning the tool counter clockwise it will snap the track connection together. Clockwise will unlock the track

That would keep unwanted pressure off the tabs during assembly/disassembly. Pretty neat!

Yes Eric, it does. Actually works well on the old style Tyco but was made for the AFX track.
