Good afternoon members of the tycoforums.com world. I am looking for a particular train set and hoped that by joining this forum, better luck could be had in my search.
My wife is a big fan of the old Petticoat Junction TV show, it is filling up our DVR right now, recording the show at 5 AM every morning. Anyway, we are both looking for a train to add to our Christmas decorations this year, and as a surprise gift to my wife, I am looking for the Tyco Petticoat Junction Train set they made in the mid 1960s. It is a really cute little train set, there are some great pictures on Google Image search.
As you could imagine, a limited run set like that one made almost 50 years ago would be hard to find. Does anyone here have the set that I am looking for and would be willing to sell? The one local shop here said they didn't have a way to find it, which I don't really believe, but oh well. If no one has one, maybe you may know someone that does, or somewhere for me to look?
Thanks you for the help,
Nathan

Hi Nathan, the Petticoat Junction boxed set can cost quite a bit and seems to be pretty rare on eBay, but I was able to put together my own Petticoat Junction set for much less by watching eBay for C&FW. Often the loco and cars will be listed as C&FW instead of Petticoat Junction and so they don't command as high of a price. Of course I don't have the box, but it is still nice to have the Petticoat Junction loco and cars running on the layout.

Thanks for the help everyone! I went to the link for the train on eBay first thing thing this morning, but I was going to wait a bit so I could ask y'all a question about it. You can't see the tender car that well, I didn't know if the coal was completely missing, or just too dark to see in the picture. When I got to work just now I checked eBay again and the train was sold, so there went that chance.
I think I am going to set up a reminder on my phone to tell my to check eBay every morning so that I don't miss another opportunity.

The coal or wood load for the tender is pretty easy to find as a separate part, so for the future just know that shouldn't hold you back.
Also, you can have eBay send you an email when it matches a search criteria. Just create a search and click the "+ Follow This Search" button.
Here is a search that might work for you:

Have fun! -Thomas

I sold a PJ steamer a few years ago for like $30. It was decent but not perfect. Just a matter of going to shows and poking around.

Newly listed on eBay today. Popped up on my phone thanks to the saved search that Thomas linked above.

Everything looks legitimate, he does mention that there may be a few pieces track missing. I'm not too worried about that, but can y'all look at it and tell me if any red flags come up. I don't like the Buy It Now price, so I'm going to have to try my luck with bidding. I'm thinking I can afford $125, and hopefully that will do it.
What do y'all think?

I don't think you will find a better one!
The track and power pack are no big deal, easy enough to replace. The Buy it Now price does seem very high.
Good luck!
