I just posted a nice pic of the rare WP caboose, and it got me thinking.
The WP caboose was presumably mocked up, to go with the WP GP20. But that engine was only offered for one year, and is also somewhat rare.
SO.... what about the other one/few-year locomotive roadname rarities:
Northern Pacific (Shark) Cotton Belt (F7/9) Rio Grande (SD24) * Milwaukee Road (E7) New Haven "McGinnis" (GG1 / E7)
Could there be pre-production sample cabeese out there for them, as well?
Heck, there was at least one caboose made for a loco that also may or may not exist - the Wabash Cannonball, in Midnight Special livery (I personally presume there must be a Shark out there also painted to match).
So it could very well be possible....????
* I believe I have seen some red-box Rio Grande cabeese, in a yellow / passenger paint scheme. I will need to verify this unless someone else can confirm. The SD24 paint would not match this caboose, though.

Interesting theory...would like to see some of those possible TYCO Caboose models and the possible Wabash Cannonball Shark!
There is a Red Box Era D&RGW Caboose...
T327D -Denver & Rio Grande
It appears in the 1962-63 and 1963-64 TYCO catalogs. I've seen it on eBay and it's solid Rio Grande Aspen Gold aka orange with the 4-stripe scheme. TYCO did skip the silver below the 4-stripe that Rio Grande did on their examples.
