There was some question about the validity of the Allstate Motor Oil Tank Car, I have here. Since it was in a Tyco box and not in any catalogs I have here. I have had the opportunity to compare it with 2 other tank cars. I looked at a "red box" Cities Service and a "brown box" Coca Cola. The chasis is definately not Tyco and neither are the trucks they attach differently the chasis on the Coke and Cities Service are exactly the same one says Tyco made in Hong Kong the shafts on the trucks are different but couplers frame and chasis are the same. So apparently someone put the Allstate car in a Tyco box and that's how I bought it. The insert is correct but the car, in my opinion, is definately NOT a Tyco. Mystery Solved.

I remembered you mentioned that when I first brought up the question. With tongue in cheek he asks, "But why would someone want to put their product in someone elses box?". More than likely it was one of those train shows, Greenberg or another and at a quick glance they looked like Tyco and were in a Tyco box and either I or someone picked them up for me. So I guess that's how I got 2 of them . Tanks are very close but chasis and trucks are way off.

Hi Bob. Does your Allstate tank car look like this..??
If it does, it is the Marx Allstate tank car. From one of the Sears Sets made for Sears by Marx in the Late 50's. It came in two colors. Blue and Sears green. Carl Numquam Immoderatio Satis Est (Too Much Is Never Enough )

That's the little deceiver. Mine came in a Tyco box and either I or someone I know, who knew I was collecting Tyco, bought 2 of them and both are in Tyco brown boxes. Now the mystery is completely solved. Thank you sir. In Malfunction Junction: When all else fails get a bigger hammer.
