My apologies if this topic has been brought up recently; I didn't find any subject lines. I'm wondering about a good source for traction rings, or a substitute? I got some traction "tires" at the local place and didn't realize until I got home that they were intended for Rivarossi and such. I put them on a 4-8-0 with one side kind of pressed into the groove where the original ring would set. The engine ran OK, but I can't say I was impressed by any improvement in pulling power.

Try Yard Bird Trains on eBay or look some up on eBay under the Mantua area.

| I've seen the ones on eBay and I was hoping for some tips on finding some that weren't as expensive. $4.00 seems like a lot for a tiny o-ring. I bought a variety of sizes at the hardware store yesterday for $.35 each, but I haven't tried any of them yet. We'll see. I'm just wondering what other folks experience is. I've also just done without them on some of my locomotives and really haven't noticed a significant difference, but I was thinking, maybe some "fresh" rubber would make a difference. I know there are products like that "snot" stuff, but I'd just as soon not have to get in to all that mess. So . . . I'm just looking for tips from other folks.

With no ring, that flange will hit the sleepers and ties the whole time. Here the 4-8-0 rings:

| Thanks Justin. The O-rings I got from the hardware store didn't cut it. They were too "thick". I will order from Yardbird and see how they work. My 4-6-0's do "OK" without the tires (limited to 6 or 7 cars), but the 4-8-0 spins easily without a load? Crazy. Yardbird does seem to have the best prices for these.

Barry, I agree with Justin, Yardbird is the best source for those, and remember Dan may not answer you right away, e-mail him twice with a "#1" or "#2" in the e-mail header line!
