I have a Mantua smoke unit from 2001 that came out of a 4-6-2and I want to see if it still works. Do I simply take 2 wires that used to go to track that are connected to a controller and just touch the ends of the smoke unit wires? (With Smoke oil applied of course)? Thanks!

That's all it take. It is basically the same unit that is in the Gilbert AF Hudsons. I check them that way all the time. Only after applying oil to all the pump wearing surfaces as well..
