Hi Mike, your very busy. Lots of interesting things going on . I hope watching people like you will get me going on my camelbacks again. They are there right on the workbench. I see them everyday. It is good to see some interesting things being worked on. Your redetailing of the model Power 2-8-0s are coming out fine. I'll keep on checking out this post.

I just like taking the mundane and giving it more life. A lot con be done with IHC locomotives. The model power engines are on hold for now until I get my 4-8-0 done, and then i'll start knocking them out.

Great work Mike. Count me as a fan too. It's amazing how even small changes can give a whole new personality to a steam locomotive.

Realy nice work, Mike. You're prolific. /tyco/forum/uploaded/NickelPlate759/icon_mi_6.gif I really like the fireman's shelter you built for the camelback's tender... I'd like to see more of that.

I took the liberty of tweaking your picture of it to see it more clearly.

/tyco/forum/uploaded/NickelPlate759/20130525172514_100_2911a.jpg

I used a free program called Faststone that I highly recommend, and all I had to do was use the auto adjust feature and sharpen it a bit. I use it for quick adjustment of my photos, especially when they come out less than perfect.

http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

Also, be sure your camera is in macro mode (indicated by a flower icon) for closeup shots.

Great stuff! Love those Cal Scale details on that Roundhouse and the 4-4-0! I have a spare CJ 4-6-0 tender and looks like the 4-4-0 seen will be a project idea!

-Thanks for the picture tweaking, I had a blown lightbulb overhead.
-Yes, the little engine with the tiny cars is Narrow gauge. HOn30 to be exact. HOn3 is a slightly different gauge.
And thank you all for the kind compliments! I will try to upload more pictures of my other projects. Such as my Mantua 2-8-2 that i'm doing some moderate cometic work on, my boxcab electric kitsmashn'bashes that have a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement, and my 2 Rivarossi Casey Jones's, one plain and the other Pennsyfied.

You have a great imagination! I have mental plans, just hasn't been put to use yet! Does your IHC 4-4-0 require tender pick-up to run?

To whomever won the 2-6-6-2, I have a sudden pity for you. That's a LOT of weight you gotta remove to make that engine ride right. Makes me glad I lost, I won't have to deal with it

But anywho, hopefully, once I clean off the layout, i'll get back to work on it. I had to cut the layout size down by half. Might do a G&D #1 or #2, which ever is smaller. My literal "dream" layout is to remain a dream and a sketch. O scale stuff is keeping me busy, signage being my specialty. (Not sharing, trade secrets and such)

A Mantua mikado I pulled out of one of the several boxes I have. Replaced the cab with one from EM1, felt that the original cab was too small. Raised the headlight by an 1/8th inch. Needs more work, lots of work. Tender is a varney, but i'll need a varney tender chassis in order for it to fit properly, so for now it's on a the mantua chassis.

Funny you would say that! I got the Walthers coal mine....(Unsure of the actual name off the top of my head.....) BUT, I'm not going to use them for that as I don't think, I'm going to make that all animated anyway......

Let me find them all as they are all together, (I know right where they are as I just recently seen them) And got you, and one other forum member interested in some of them!

Nice work on that 4-8-0 Mike! That cab, AND boiler when to a Mantua 4-4-2..... I do in fact, have it, BUT I think my cab is a little different then the one you pictured here. I don't have the round cab windows!

Can you find the pictures of the stuff you wanted? I'll send the cab off to you for molding. And I might have another for you as well.

Edit- Nevermind, found it

Will be modifying my 2-6-6-0 again. Going to move the headlight down onto the deck and have an elesco feed water heater. Should look like a Bingham & Garfield 0-8-8-0 when all is said and done with.
Only thing holding me up is handrail stanchions. Every single loco I have seems to have a need for them.
I hope to be busy in the spring.

Decided to get an AHM signal tower earlier this week. Lovely piece. Painted it up like a PRR tower.

Got handrail stanchions coming. Just need an elesco feedwater heater.
Work on the layout will begin this weekend. Clearing, and boxing up of items. No new engines. Or rolling stock for that matter. Just parts, books, magazines, and pictures, anything with some inspiration inside.

I like that paint work Mike; the wooden lap siding with the contrasting wood trim.

It's all about having colors that compliment each other. Tuscan, Red, Old White, and Black do so wonderfully. One would think buildings have only 2 to 3 colors but they can have more than that. Mine has 4 and might get more if i put some gutters and drain pipes on it.

Added a new front end to the mallet and a new set of cylinders. They were supposed to go to John Patton but I haven't heard from him in a while. I can always find another set for I do intend to make a 2-6-6-2 but more modern than the 2-6-6-0 seen here. Also then engine now has a bell> Took a bit of digging around the net to find a bell that's angular.

Here is a size comparison between the mallet and a recently acquired Berk. It's little wonder that this mallet is often referred to as a 'Pocket Mallet'

Side profile.

Other side.

Here's the 845 waiting at PU tower. Had to set up a loop of track out of boredom and ran some trains yesterday while we got buried in snow.

Also starting on an Electric Boxcab Locomotive of 4-6-6-4 or 4-6-0+0-6-4 wheel arrangement. Using Rivarossi GG1 chassis's and MDC roundhouse diesel boxcar shells, this will be one heck of a locomotive. I will build it to be either ran normally or through catenary. The panographs are Tri-ang and fairly good looking for my purposes. I was originally going to make a 4-6-4 but the deck in the front and rear of the engine would be too long for my liking, although there were boxcabs that did have long decks. Using ideas from JNR (japanese national railway), Great Northern Railroad, and the PRR, this will be my idea of a great looking boxcab. Here's a sketch I made to visualize the final product. I may do this more often to share my ideas with the rest of you.

Parts to be used are
Cal Scale Old SP headlights
Cal Scale MU linkages
Cal Scale Air Ringer bell
2 Tri-ang Panographs
2 MDC Boxcab shells
2 Rivarossi GG1 power chassis's
and various other detail parts that i have no idea where they came from. No idea what i'm doing for a frame to mount it all on, i'll have to wait and see about that when the time comes.
This will probably be the most hand railing i'll ever make for one locomotive. Technically 2 but they are permanently linked together like a PRR DD1. The only reason I'm making this engine like a DD1 is because MDC boxcabs are hard to come by and can get expensive. So i I won't cut them up just to make one unit and have wasted portions of the boxcab laying around or thrown out. I'm very particular on the amount of waste a project uses. This one will use up more parts than it creates. If it does somehow make parts, i'll have a use for them in another project further down the road or I trash it if it doesn't have any use what so ever (horn hook couplers are a big one, got rid of 2 handfuls of them).

That's a good looking loco.

Forgot this, changed the cab on the 2-6-6-0. The Mantua PRR cab was interfering with the tender whenever she went around a curve. Replaced it with a MDC ATSF cab. Looks better and functions better. Now I can bring the tender closer to the locomotive for a more realistic look. I'm no rivet counter but I want my engines to look good.

I always liked the round windows than the square ones on fairbanks morse engines. Although Train Masters never had them, it's my railroad, so phooey to accuracy! They're... Early Train Masters, yeah... that sounds good.

Not bad for a bandsaw, a bit of filing, and cutting some plastic for filling in the gap. One more unit to go.
