Hello, I won this on eBay today and I was wondering it anyone can tell me anything about it. There was also a tanker same as this boxcar, but when I went back to get it someone got it. I'm thinking this was a promotion set like the Sprague Energy Set I got two weeks ago. I'm gonna be kicking my self I did not get the tanker also.

Never seen it before. looks like a mantua-tyco box car from some set. need to see the bottom to see if it is mantua-tyco or life like -varney. both had similar cars with cast on roof walkways and metal door runners. The ll-v door is narrower and that looks like it.

Just a guess, it's circa 1966 - the car number and artwork style are the same as the JC Penney boxcar.

Odds are relisted the right way, as a limited run piece, you could make a buck on it.

I say, it was produced sometime in the mid to late 50s. The eBay seller said it is Mantua. Most likely, the metal bottom plate on the car has MANTUA embossed on it. Mantua/Tyco switched over to the newer metal bottom plate with TYCO embossed on it before 1960.

Ok my final guess is it is a Mantua-tyco box car. The door matches and the line of the detail along the bottom of the car matches. I looked at 3 or 4 Varney Life like box cars and the door is different , so is the bottom line of the car.
