My club was active at this show with a modular layout, but due to a train club member's funeral, I didn't make it up until Sunday. Sad day Saturday, our late member had the funeral home packed to the walls, a real great guy. He will be missed by all.
Sunday I went up to the show, and spent the morning shopping. Got some nice Tyco stuff at the White Elephant table, then a Proto BL-2 came through, I told the guy as he was signing his Sell sheet to hand to the auctioneer/seller running the table, I'll take that NOW, thanks! LOL. $25. Other items through the day included other Tyco stock, a Varney UP steam 0-4-0 in bright yellow ( missing motor, $10 ), another Eldon steam engine $5, a Tyco GP-20 Rock Island $5, a strange SOO F7 with a Marx-type geared engine truck for $3 at a tin-plate table. A Lionel HO chassis with GE electric motor for $10, missing shell and some wheels. Hi-F Athearn chassis, $10. Bunch of misc. diecast cars, other rolling stock, rounded out my day's purchases. I'll post stuff later as I get pictures. I operated my Bachmann Western Maryland diesel with some RF&P cars for most of the afternoon, and I put the Eldon steam engine in the WM hopper as a load. :) Dang my feet were tired by 4 pm, my feet were cramping on the ride home, too. A good day, though, lots of neat deals, good finds. My wife will kill me. LOL! Oh well, I'll slip them in boxes and hide them amongst the other boxes I already have. The deals were just too good, and stuff I wanted for kit-bashing eventually was available.
Some notable pieces I saw :

- Mantua Aero train, 1 unpainted swirly-shelled engine and 3 cars, $125.
-Varney train set, complete with box.
- Marx Rock Island HO set, complete with box.

I probably shouldn't have spent as much as I did, but ya know, the opportunity was there, and so was my money, for a change, so I didn't sweat it. Last couple of shows I went to, I barely spent over $50. Just nothing I wanted at those shows. This time, lots of stuff. :)

well, that's my Timonium report, will be taking pics and posting from this latest purchase this week.

Pictures, Take 1...

Looks like I didn't snap any pictures of the Marx set. Darn! THought I did. Here's what I did take, though.

Above, here's an unpainted Mantua Aero engine, with swirly plastic molding. Had a price of 125 on the set. Maybe one day....

Above, here's a complete Gilbert set. Don't see these in HO often!

Above, a nice Snap-on tools train. First I'd seen one of these.

Speaking of Varney, here's a set. Another one you don't see often in a box these days.

Above, a Bachmann Hi-Railer pick-up makes its way around my club's modular layout. a guest of one member had put a Z scale ( NZ125 ) Decoder inside, and it was capable of speeds enough to keep ahead of non-fast engines. :) I've been wanting to do this myself, I have a Jeepster that I will attempt this on myself. Wasn't jerky like the old Bachmann Tracksters, this one was fairly smooth and steady.

Above, an Eldon steam engine was found on a floor plat, $5 pick any item. I couldn't pay for this one fast enough! This one has rubber bands intact, so I'm gonna try it and see if I can post a video of it running sometime soon.

A bag of yellow firemen, I think they'll go great wtih my FireFox train set.

Found this Tri-Ang tender in a box, decided to get it. Not sure why. I'm thinking turning it into a hot tub on rails, pulled behind the regular tender. Engineers can go relax for awhile. :)

A bag of AMX Tyco cars, plus some others I found at another vendor, all cheap. Good AMC day as well!

These are just some of the items I bought, I have way more than that, will post more as I get them out of the car and take pictures when the wife isn't around. She's on me about buying more train stuff. Anyway, a good haul, a good day, hope you enjoyed this part of the show.

Hi AMC_Gremlin_GT,

Nice finds for sure. Can't wait to see how the Eldon works out.

That Gilbert set is really sweet.

Thanks for sharing.

Jerry; Looking at your pictures, that Talgo set in the begining would have caught my eye too. I have never seen a unpainted loco body before. The gilbert set is wrong. That old set is 1940s could be per or post war. That is the old all diecast freight set . So the plastic Texas and Pacific gongola doesn't belong with the set. Gilberts other all die cast car from then, the tank car does. The T&P gondola isn't a throw away, but a hard to find, good car by itself. It is a keeper. The three boxes with the track in them are ofter empted and a 3 car set of metal passenger cars from that time are kept in them instead. A good way to display all the Gilbert first cars from that era.

my condolances to you and your friends family on such a loss
I Just came from timonium myself on sat. I looked at the snap on set too, had plowed through my allotted cash by then. As for the cash I save all my loose change and cash it in for a show. As for the wife good luck there. My lady friend has been with me for 4 yrs now, and when we first started dating she knew of my interest in model railroading. When I decide to take her to a train show I told her if I heard her calling them " cute " that would be the end of us. as the old saying goes "be careful what you wish for" Not only does she spot the bargain boxes under the tables I miss but now wants to get her own garden train layout. The down side was that Sunday I had to spend 3 hrs at a fabric outlet shopping for fabrics. you don't get something for nothing

Sounds like she's a keeper to me! Yes, you have to divide your time fairly, if she'll spend time with you doing what you like, the reverse is true as well. Fair is fair. Hope you found lots of bargains to take home, I know I did. I could have spent more if I took more money, but tried to keep it reasonable. LOL. I hope to get my Garden Railway expanded this year to more than just a circle. I bought one switch, and will extend a single line down the yard as I clear ivy ( English and Poison both ). Yuk. Good luck to you both then!
