* I was at Merchants Square Mall yesterday. There is a hobby store there next to the entrance to the hall where the train shows are, Valley Rail Trains. I found a Marx Sears set there. It was in one of their display cabinets in the main hallway outside the store. Sear set #9940. To see it quickly all you see is the New Haven F3a and their matching caboose with some cars. Look again and 2 of the cars look special. the most special is the Erie flat car 6028 with boat load. It is a old style Criss-Craft cruiser from the 1930's. This one car is the reason for the set purchase. The other car is the same Erie 6028 flat car with some spring clips the hold something in place. maybe a wood or pipe load. Does anybody know of this car. And what load it carried. I'll post identification station soon. You may see in the lower left hand corrner the power pack. It is a hobbyline pack. If that is the power pack that came with the set, it dates this set to 1957. Because that is one of the two years the boat car was released. The other being 1960, and Hobbyline wasn't around in 1960. frank

Edit 4-22-13. New set photo with 2 pickup trucks added to the Erie flat car.

Ken , Good post. Like you reminded me in a PM. VintageHO, Carl or is it Walt in post 16 or 17 9-24-09, shows a photo of the flat car with 2 station wagons on it. It came also with the sedans as well as the boat and logs. * It does look like either the cars or logs will fit the car's form in the sets photo. * not having the cars i will use a wood load.
