Do the current Bachman diesel locomotives have flywheels?

I can't remember. I'll have to dig out my SD40-2. (newest one).

Is the Bachmann Plus line still a available? I have a couple of those with flywheels.

I don't think so, since the Plus SD45 was retooled into a Spectrum engine.

Wow, this is a tricky subject. I was very surprised to see the newer improved "basic" "standard" or whatever-you-call-entry-level line does NOT have flywheels, as these locos with the new drive and gearing run very very smooth. They don't coast to a stop, but they run a lot quieter than any Athearn BB loco ever did, and nearly as smooth as the RTR line. For the price I won't complain, and honestly don't really notice the lack of flywheels; given a any modern smooth-running dual-truck electrical pickup and drive, my track is maintained well enough that I can "coast" the train to a stop manually without worry.
...but with that said, I reviewed one of Bachmann's new DCC/Sound S4's... which are not part of a "premium" line (they sell the same loco in straight mute DC), and it has a flywheel. A tiny thing - more or less a large coupling as opposed to a separate unit - BUT it was brass, and even more impressively, it was balanced. Perhaps even a token flywheel is important for DCC/Sound so as to coast across momentary shorts. But I can't say added a noticeable performance benefit.
Still, for older units and Athearn BB's... gotta have the flywheels as part of their charm.

Actually, some of the "standard" line do have flywheels. But I think flywheels are restricted to those locos that had their start in other lines. So when the Spectrum H16-44 was "demoted" to the standard line, it kept the flywheels. Likewise, when the B23-7 was moved from the "plus" line to standard, it also kept the flyes. However, the standard line B23-7 flywheels are SMALLER then those found on the plus version.
The GP38, GP40, and GP50 do not have flywheels. Fortunately there is plenty of room should you want to add your own flywheels. I think the motor shaft is a standard 2mm diameter.

F-unit standard line Flywheels. The newer FT's and the new F7's I have, do not have flywheels. The new F7's have a lighter frame and cheaper motor. The F7a bodies seem to be the same as the spectrum line. Regards, John

Hmm, I remember Bachmann's DDA40X going through several modifications over the years:
I wonder if its diesel horn sound was any good? Hopefully it was more like something similar to lower-end DCC sound modules, instead of a crappy buzzer like Bachmann's diesel horn in oil tank accessory they still offer for $40! Then in the 1990s, it entered the Spectrum line, and now it's one of their E-Z DCC locomotives (the latest version even has on-board sound, like the early versions did! I think it's good to see Bachmann keeping a bit of their past alive and well.)
