After acquiring the Lionel HO-sized boats recently, I've been thinking about what to do with them. I have plenty of Tyco hopper cars, and have thought about how they would make a good transport for other things than coal, etc. The boat will fit in there with a few scale inches to spare, so I thought Hmmm....would it be logical or semi-prototypical to use a hopper to transport a boat as a secondary source of income? The boat would sit a bit high unless I cut down some of the inner bracing. I can do that. I figure the hopper side walls give the boat more protection than a simple flat car could, and they have to lift the boat up and off the car anyway. Guess I need to check the scale height to see if it's feasible. Might be top-heavy. Thoughts?
