I have a Tyco/Mantua B & O Royal Blue steam engine in good shape that I have had and used since the mid 60s. It runs well and is intact except the headlight doesn't work. I've seen them go for between $40 and $60 on ebay. I also have the 4 car B & O passenger set that I am currently running behind an Amtrak diesel. 3 of the cars run well, 2 with lights that work. One car has a broken flange on one of plastic wheels.

I'm debating on whether to sell it as a complete set or sell the locomotive and keep the cars. Can anyone tell me if it is more valuable with the cars and some idea of how much more than just the engine?

From what I've seen on eBay, the only time a matching set of engine and cars is significantly more valuable together is when you have all the original boxes. It's easy enough to mix and match otherwise, and the B&O paint scheme is one of the more common ones.

That's just my opinion. Hope it helps!

I say tune the cars up and engine and keep 'em! The bulbs are the same in most Mantua's and a tender wheel set can be used on the coach.
