Found this over a week ago, and waited on pins and needles to see if anyone else would find it on Ebay and bid on it. Nope! Got the power pack , 2 engines and 2 cars for $9 plus shipping. Eldon was a slot car maker, and they used the flat square motor in these engines. I'm curious as to how well they run, seeing as how they're probably from the 50's - 60's era.

Quiet unique! Looks as if they used there own slot car motor for the steamer motor. Never knew they dabbled into the train market!

I actually posted a thread in the "Other Makers" about this exact set! It was called the "Little Big Train" What was it under? I've been trolling for one of these for awhile. Mainly to get better pictures of it.
Excellent find. Good to see this in more detail. This was from the mid 1960's (catalogs from 1966-68 is when I saw it IIRC)

Ok, that was you. :) I just searched on Eldon, as there are few entries on Ebay for them, quite rare to see any Eldon products of any type on Ebay these days. Anyway, I found 3 or 4 slot cars, and this train popped up, too. I said It HAS to be that Little Big Train! That's all he had in the description and title was Eldon and train. Get too specific like Little Big Train ( I tried to search on that, but didn't pop up anything ), and you won't find it, probably. If I was you, just search on Eldon for awhile, if there is one, it'll pop up eventually.

That's a really neat little train! It's too bad it didn't come with any of the original, super tight radius track

Believe it or not, our "much-loved" Power Torque motor came from a slot car concept/brainstorm.
Considering how popular slot cars were during the model train heydays of the 70's, it's no surprise that someone (or some company) would attempt to merge the two technologies.
Forum member Tony (spiderj76) may have more good details about this concept.
