I was 12 years old when i built this layout on a 4X8 sheet of plywood - It had Tyco tru steel track and some Atlas Nickel Silver as i was beginning to get away from Tyco at that time - what was i thinking These pictures were taken with an Kodac 110 - I uploaded and cropped and fixed best i could - remember this was the camera tech for average people back then - no instant viewing unless you had a Instamatic - some of you are to young to know what either are - These pictures are from around Christmas time
my main street scene 1984 - roads were made of black construction paper with chalk lines joined together with black electrical tape - that is a Bachmann snap together ped bridge

Tyco Exxon station and Tyco Truck terminal - Matchbox and Hotwheels vehicles

Life Like Hampton FD and Bachmann snap together FD - used it as a police dept

Model Power Western Union office - Matchbox Vehicles and Hotwheels in background

MY first real train engine - Atlas F7 - still have it today and runs like new - Tyco Tru-Steel track

Bachmann Toy and Hobby shop - notice the containers to right -" full of toys for Christmas "

Life-Like Hampton Fire Dept

Bachmann Toy and Hobby- notice the depressed center flat car=Bachmann - Bachmann SCL caboose

Nice pictures, Brian! I'm sure layouts like that are getting scarcer these days. Some where I have a small pile of photos that I took of my first train layout using a film camera as well. Very nostalgic

Very nice layout. By the way, I think I still have a blank film cartridge for that 110, somewhere around here.

| That's because it's the same kit. Pola sold you that basic kit about four different ways; combined with the Tyco Machine Shop it was Gruesome Casket (which started out as a kitbash in Model Railroader or RMC), with a different front it was the Ramsey Journal Building (home offices of RMC/Carstens at one time), with this big porch it was the railroad hotel, and it also was offered as a fire station with a still slightly different front wall. It's been sold as AHM, Tyco and Model Power as well.

Hi Brianstyco,
That is a very cool layout. I like that you used Matchbox cars and others for your layout. I have some of those and some of the buildings you show. There is nothing better than looking back at simpler times in our lives. So, take lots of pictures of Family, Friends and the things we collect and so on. Then backed them up right away for the Family to share down the road. They will be priceless.
Thanks for sharing.

| I remember my dads layout,we had a pool table and that became the train table as he put plywood on top of it. So not alot of pool was played. This was like in 78-80 i think and i think there was some pics of me with dad running it. I gotta go to my parents and go through the old photo albums.

That's fantastic Brian! Really takes me back as my first "serious" layout (the original STC) was very similar in execution. Funny you posted this as I'd been considering doing something similar for a time, but haven't bothered scanning the pics. There aren't many either. Actually, very very few. Which is probably a good thing.
I love the mixed hotwheels though, how sad is it I can identify almost all of them not just by prototype but by model vendor too?
Your streets looked very good - far better than my own at the time.
Thanks for sharing!

SpiderJ - Thanks - glad you can identify vehicles in my pictures - love it - Thank you all for commenting - If you have pics of your first layout - please post them - I would love to see them - Glad i posted these in the sense that it brought memories back for many of you.
Royal Blue - Thank you for your comment
Thank you all for comments on my first streets - I had a teacher at school that gave me the construction paper and some white and yellow chalk - I told her why i needed it and she gave it to me

| Nice! I love seeing old photos like those. My current layout looks a bit like it could have come out of the 1980s too, except for the nickel-silver track :P
