So, off and on, I run my trains. My $5 buy ATSF ten-wheeler was funny. I replaced the crappy tender wire with another one. Ran a little better. Then, at the draw bar, it was so loose it'd only run if jiggled! Well, I saw why. The connector never really sat down as it shoulda. To fix this, I screw the wire lead down to the tender floor. Never had to this with a Mantua ever! Anybody ever have this funny quirk? I own at least 10 Mantua steamers and never had to do this before!

I have had this same issue. I solved mine by cleaning the screw and the eye on the end of the wire. From what I could tell the screw worked itself loose and dirt just built up there over time.
