I just won this steamer tonight for $19.99. Not a Life Like tea kettle either. Diecast through and through and seller noted it was made in Japan and had a Rivarossi motor?!

That's funny, I just now PM'ed somebody about this. I should have known one of our own would buy it. It was remotored because the Rivarossi ball bearing motors were much smoother than the vertical motors that New One Made. It probably has a good speed range with the higher reduction New One gearing.
I can give you tune up tips, or teach you haw to strip the motor all the way down for a full service, if you don't mind dealing with those tiny 1mm balls.

Nelson, I'm scared of pulling the motor apart now! I'll give it the usual run down first. Can;t wait to get it!

Justin, you definitely don't want to pull the motor apart unless you do it in a container to catch any loose balls, but you'll have to pick most off the magnets. Getting a pack of spares is essential.
Fortunately, they usually run fine with a brush & commutator cleaning (including the slots), and oil for the bearings. If they're really dirty I blast the bearings with contact cleaner and re-oil. Worst case scenario is if the bearing races are pitted from dirt, which will make the motor noisier.
I guess if you call someone a spazzole in Italy, you're really calling them a brush spring.

I was being taught Italian by my grandfather on my Moms side (Only Pap I knew), as my blood one, passed when my Mom was 3, and my gram remarried... Sadly, I lost the Pap I knew before he could finish his teachings just so I could translate those Rivarossi diagrams!
And yes, he was teaching me, for the very reason......was to be a gift! (HE got fed up reading them for me as a youngster!
