I have a 1955 Tyco Mikado. It has never been run and is in beautiful condition, but long ago, someone dropped it and snapped off the pilot and the bell. This early model has the pilot cast as part of the boiler and the bell mounted on the boiler front, above the headlight. I will pay absolute TOP dollar for a like new, original boiler like this. Or, I could also be interested in an unbroken one, that I could repaint. Will also consider buying a whole loco/tender. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

The pilots on these older units were diecast, but they were separate from the boiler.

You should be able to get away with a new bell and pilot. I believe Dan at Yardbird Trains still has repro metal ones. The bell might be salvageable if it's just bent, but he has front mount bells as well.

I have two Mantua/Tyco Cast Boilers.

I can look if you want and see if they are what you need?

Well, I certainly should have looked closer, as you are absolutely correct, the pilot is a separate piece. I knew the later ones were separate, but when I looked at this one, it just looked like one piece to me. I am SOOOOOO relieved that it is a separate piece, as now I can repair it. I am new to the Tyco Forum and thrilled to find it. After having dealt in model trains the better part of my life, I have now been bitten by the early Tyco collector bug and I'm glad to find this wealth of knowledge here at this site. Thanks again, Allen

Welcome Allen. Before long you will be pouring over the Seeker site to see the differences in the locos from decade to decade! Check out the catalogs on this homepage - they have the Tyco's from the 50's. I picked up a 50's Mikado and Pacific but they had the plastic pilots so I'll be looking for metal replacements.
