Well everyone, heres what I got to do on Thanksgiving day afternoon, and the railroad "railfaning" I got to do....
starting off, I caught this on my way to the old B&O's "Sand Patch", just off the side about 100 yards from the Keystone railroad crossing:

Then I got these:

YES, thats me in the cab!
More to come!

Then while getting pictures of the Pandrol Jackson 6700 Tamper, this was comming up on my tail! Just as I was about to leave and go sit over at the Sand Patch tunnel portal, here this came at me from the Meyersdale side of Sand Patch......SO, I had to video it as it was on Thanksgiving day afternoon!
Not to bad of a evening of rail faning!

Not a bad Thanksgiving. I like the weather conditions in the video.

As for the "handlebars"... something different for vacation as I normally have a Goatee! Its the Irish in me......I can grow a full beard in alittle more then a week! The wife is not to happy with it at that point but... call me scruffy LOL

Ben, I'm not a big Conrail fan, but the Spreader was sitting still on a vacation day, with the door open (It was were it was because the door lock didn't work)....
And with that, I know all of the older guys that are CSX employees so.....I didn't have to worry about it, so I thought I'd get me a picture or 2, as the wife was with me when I seen the machines you've seen me post in the last 2 days!

Visited sandpatch for the 2nd time a few months ago (first time was a few months prior between spring & summer). Didn't see anything the first time. On the 2nd trip we waited a hour & a half since we ran into two railfans with cameras and a scanner.
Missed the sun going over the hills by about 15mins
Helper units on the rear. Really cool to watch them uncouple on the fly.

I'd imagine with CSX's new Gateway project for intermodal trains that we should see traffic pick up along that line so that will be a good thing. But that won't happen till at least 2014 before we see double stacks rolling up the valley.
Oh yea we had stayed in Cumberland MD. Which is where this lives....

We've rode behind 734 before, but this time we were just passing through and we happen to catch it sitting in the station cooling it heels for a bit.

The NYC reporting marks means it belongs to CSX. Anything with PRR marks belongs to NS.

Nice catch Mike! I used to live just 2 miles from Sand Patch.....
Sadly, I miss it and have a go around when I'm in my home area....
With "Mountain Thunder" I have taken trips in her as a passenger in the cab, and I have operated her, what a rush! In the yard across the river where she resides!
I know the owner pretty well and used to do alot of hobby work for their gift shop...

Mike and John. I was through Cumberland on the interstate last Saturday and saw the smoke from 2 steamers on the right, early in the AM, as I headed north. I would have like to have stopped. Thanks for the pics.
