At the York, PA show last weekend, I stopped at a vendor who had his home burn, he had been in rehab for extensive burns on his arms and body. He had a plat full of Mantua tanker cars, with water and smoke damage. I bought a bunch for $2 each. Not sure how I'm gonna clean them up, I really just wanted the bases for a tanker conversion project I have in mind. they're all metal, so they have some nice heft to them. Anyone cleaned up water damaged cars before? I may just salvage the frames and just dump the trucks or hold them for later repair. Whatever is easier.

Looks like the tanker bodies themselves just need minor clean-up. I'll have to disassemble them totally and see what I got to deal with then.

Ya know, Jerry. I was doing a general cleaning on a Tyco Bubble Yum box car once and damaged the painted lettering on it, basically ruined the looks of one side. I wasn't using any strong or harsh cleaner either. I've found that stained or dirty cars are pretty tough to clean up...

Oddly enough, I put the Bubble Yum box car on ebay and included an extra photo and explaination of the damged side. I was surprised when it sold for $11 and some change...

I've had the same thing happen. I was scrubbing the side of a Tyco streamliner and I accidentally caught some of the lettering. The result was a smear on one of the letters. Not a huge issue, but I was kind of angry with myself.

From the picture the tank cars don't look too bad. I'm sure you can figure somethe out
