Sometimes you just really get a lot of neat goodies when you buy a lot someone doesn't list well. This week's post is about a lot which was split fairly evenly between Euro and American trains. I was actually after the Euro, as I've been wanting a Dock Shunter, but they just bring crazy prices sometimes. I wound up with the whole lot for $26 plus shipping. VERY happy with the deal, got 5 engines, 3 of them Euro / UK styles. Anyway, here's the lot laid out, USA in one box, Euro in the other. I'll be posting these in the coming weeks in OTW's.

Jerry,
I buy lots all the time. It is pretty rare for me to buy singular items.
This is just a couple from my list of 58 purchases for the past 31 days:

Nice pick-up by the way!

Hey Ben,
I don't suppose I outbid you on a few of those did I? I kind of have a bad habit of doing that from time to time. Sorry if I did.
Ever since eBay stopped allowing bidders to see who else is bidding on something, it made it near impossible to know if you are bidding against people you may know from elsewhere..
I only wish I had time to go to shows. The NYSME show is one i would definitely go to. It is a ~6-7 hour drive each way, but last time I went I purchased ~$500-$600 in trains for just under $200. They are mostly O scale guys there.

I think buying lots are fun! Last lot was a true steal, just look at my post in this week's LOTW. Last one helped me get a Moorestown Gravel loader by Tyco complete and a SP Shark Nose! I think other bidders are blocked out for self protection. People are crazy!

So NOW I know who's been outbidding me! Nice deal on the brass lot, too. That one, while cheap - was too rich for my blood - or my wife's.
Congrats on your deals - wish I had enough to buy like that every week!
Now I DO have to say that several people keep PMing me auctions so I can find some cheap deals to help complete my collection the way it used to be, or haunting their local shops & such. Thanks to all who have helped - I could not do this without you.
It's nice to rejoice in our friends' fortunes. I am glad to see the deals are alive & well for everyone here!

Ah, so YOU'RE the one who got the auction with the black Roundhouse boxcab. I was bidding on that, too. I'm amazed at how much those Boxcabs are going for, 10 years ago, 10-12 bucks, now it's like 30-40 on Ebay, and the rare ones 70-80. I have 3 or 4, none of the rare versions, just the powered track cleaner and non-cleaner, and a couple that need work. I like them, they're slow and boxy. I liked that 4-4-0 as well. Oh well, there's always Timonium this coming weekend. And my inheritance check is going in the bank this week. I'm set for awhile.

Rus, I dare not have this stuff delivered home. It's not the money, it's the volume. My wife is fed up with the space my trains occupy. I put one on my dresser one time in the bedroom and she threw a fit darn near threw the engine at me. She used to say the day I die, they all get sold in one lot BIN for $1. Now that she knows what they are worth, she want's price tags on the expensive ones! LOL!
As for $ spent, my habit(s) are ~completely self supportive. Not a single dime from the family budget is allowed to be spent on any of them. I sell therefore I buy... I I buy... therefore I sell. Kind of like a vicious cycle.

Frank!
Is that the New York Society of Model Engineers? NYSME ?? train show? I've been there once. Takes over 6 hours to drive there, but it was a good time. Small show as it is a church cafeteria, but nice just the same.

We may have met there then, about 3-4 years ago I brought in this engine of mine looking for information:
Brass Scratchbuilt O Scale WM Challenger Class M-2 4-6-6-4 Steam Locomotive:

I have since been convinced that the builder is a Mr. Herbert Walters that used to work behind the counter at Ma Websters in Manhattan, NYC.

Sean - I TOTALLY understand - my wife doesn't understand either. I have to hide them too.
Walt - VERY nice lot. I especially like the Hershey's. I've got a Hershey's consist I'm building - don't have the Tyco yet, though. Those look like they are in pretty good shape!

I like to buy Ebay lots that has one or more pieces that I want in them. Photo is part of a lot I bought a couple of weeks back. I had a pair of Tropicana trailers that were slightly aged in color that I wanted to replace. The pictured Tropicana flat was on ebay with an engine, Caboose, and a boxed Tyco Colonial Home with a pack of telephone poles. Auction never sold and I contacted seller who offered me the lot for $30 shipping included. I sold my aged Trailer pair (not on Flat Car) on ebay for $15.50.. the engine & caboose sold for $6, The colonial Home for $5 totaling $26.50.. I ended up with a new crisp colored flat car with trailers in the box, for only $3.50

LOL Walt!
Now you wouldn't be referring to guys like me would you? LOL! What is wrong with owning a few spares. ... and then spares for the spares... So the B&O only had 4 LIL Joes... and I have ~82... It's that so bad? There were 105 Challengers built for Union Pacific between 1936 and 1943. I only have ~15. As I see it, I have some room to grow!

Nelson,
I do. In all, I think I have 5 or 6. I have two brass Tenshoodo. One very nicely custom painted in UP colors. This #4016 is my newest addition. It was just last year restored by a friend of mine in VA:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9977705@N05/sets/72157628365171465/
This one was my first brass Tenshodo. It is a signature series model from 1969 and has a fully detailed cab:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9977705@N05/sets/72157626008528046/
I think at last count I have 3-4 Bowser Big Boys like this one:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/9977705@N05/6983778171/in/set-72157623116949041
The big boys are a little harder to come buy. I have seen them sell for as high as $300 - $500 for a Bowser on eBay. I'm not willing to spend that much.
Like the Big'ns!
