Hey everyone!! Not really "new" to model trains or Tyco (some of my trains that got me back into trains were Tycos) anyways I got quite a few, to name a few I have a Cabforward, Berkshire, and a steamer that looks like its from the old west. I also have a ton of rolling stock and passenger cars that are AHM/Tyco branded...

anyways I was just doing a search on the web when I came across this forum and happened to see a name I know (maybe a few others too?) on another forum, Shaygetz...anyways I also go by the name of "New Berlin RR" on the other forum so hope to find interesting things and new things!!

Well that one (just like every train I run) is a runner, not a shelf queen, however I do have a few shelf queens for now as one lost a gear of some sorts and the other (my poor cab forward) is missing some piece that goes in the wheel to keep the draw bars in line to keep the wheels in sync...

anyways I have to find out why the engine won't run well forwards but in reverse it runs like the dickens so im hoping to get some help from you guys and gals to solve the issue!!

People want too much for them these days. And jim, the main reason engines don't function properly is when their wheels aren't clean, and and when they have no lubrication. Also clean track is a priority if you want to see your locos run at peak performance.

Ok, ill try cleaning the wheels again, but I did reciently clean them with rubbing alchol, I will also try recleanning the track perhaps I didn't do that correctly, however the train seems to run better on another track set so i am hoping its just wheels or track needing a clean!! Ill try dropping some lube in it also, do you have any diagrams on where I should lube the train?

A good idea is purchasing a track cleaning block, my #1 favorite and go to is a special block called SandFlex, it not only cleans track really well but also removes rust and paint off chrome plated fixtures, wheels, rods, handrails etc! Using it on loco wheels helps as well!
And there are a few reason, #1 was type of track do you run your locos on? Nickel silver is the best because the rails don't oxidize like other materials do. #2 an abrasive cleaner is better IMO when cleaning track and wheels, I have Labelle Lubricant which is some of the best stuff on the market and #107, a thin compound is good for electrical pick up but I don't like putting it on my track or loco wheels, the trick to doing it is to put some on the tracks, wipe it off with a cloth then apply it again and then let trains run over it. Ironically I did make a video on how to lube your HO locos, diesel and steam. here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lU1N9k64HQ&list=UU3kxmf5SszRL2F3ckoVrsIw&index=5&feature=plcp
A simple way of putting it is lube EVERY moving part i've seen the best outcome of lubing is, the running gear or valve gear, such as the valve guides, crosshead, main piston, and points where axle touches frame. I can custom make a picture of say one of my engines and just draw where to lube if you'd like, my video should cover most of it.

Not the only one. I can't say for sure, but I'm not sure I have one, either.
