Okay - I'm starting work on the rooms and I want to get layout software and DCC control software running on the computer. I've got the computer all ready, just need to figure which of the two software types to use.
My final layout will consist of approximately 250 locos, 250 cabeese, and around 2500 rolling stock. The consists will primarily stay 10 cars or less. I figure no more than 10% of the consists will be running at any one time. The main layout room will be 17 x 22 feet and have multiple layers.
Cam anyone recommend good layout and DCC software?
I also can use help in figuring out what sort of transformer(s) I need to use to run this. It's going to be a pain with soldering connections to thousands of 9 inch tracks...

Well, if you're using Digitrax for your DCC control, they have a modular system for power. You set your layout up in "blocks", with insulated joiners between them. My club has a 30' x 30' room with the layout around the room and a big loop out into the center. We use 5 power supplies for the whole layout. You can't use regular transformer power supplies if you are going digital, if that's what you were thinking.
And why would you create a whole layout with 9 inch sections? Other than you can't afford to buy 3 foot flextrack? That's gonna be a WHOLE lot of work! I hope you're not using brass track. Wow, talk about a throwback layout! Wish you luck if that's what you're planning on doing.

Well Jerry,
I can pick up brass track much cheaper, plus I have a little already. I'd need a really good supply of flex track CHEAP to pull this off.
I am going to use something that will send commands from a computer to run it all, block detectors and such.
Good ideas for layout software?
