I waited to see if anyone else would post, but I read the story online at FoxNews.com today (9/20) about their lawsuit regarding Obamacare and, although this chain has no presence in Tampa-St Pete, the story hits fairly close to home, speaking from a hobby store customer viewpoint. The essence of the story is that there is already a Facebook boycott campaign being orchestrated against Hobby Lobby, because they dared bring a lawsuit against the government enforcing the new healthcare laws and forcing the owners to go against their beliefs, much like the noise made against Chick-Fil-A this past summer.
Given the demographic profile of an average customer that I see at the Hobbytown franchise stores here in Tampa, I am not sure that a boycott would impact them that much, but one never knows.
Just sad to see that speaking out or defending one's right to pursue their beliefs provokes such a bitter response.

I don't get it. Hobby Lobby doesn't believe in Health Insurance?

Why would'nt they offer insurance to their employees? I think they are getting what they deserve.

I saw three things that piqued my interest:
One- the name " hobby lobby", which I have seen referenced many times on the MR forum.
Two- that if it's a hobby store chain, it relates to those who purchase hobby items, therefore it is of some interest, perhaps, to those who HAVE a hobby.
Three- that there was a national reaction, in the form of a Facebook- inspired boycott, against the stores.
What "rhetoric" was there in my merely calling attention to this news item- which was nationally broadcast online?
As recently as this week, there was a reference to this chain in MR forums. Since there are none in my area, but maybe in other TYCO Forum members', I thought it of interest.
These forums exist because of a legal guarantee of free speech, please keep that in mind.

Respectfully, I have to suggest / agree that the reason you had to "wait" to see if someone would mention it, was revealed in the responses (or lack thereof):
It's a politically charged issue that has no business here except to devolve into every other troll-fest name-calling extravanganza as seen on any news site comment board, FB, etc.
Were the discussion about Hobby Lobby in a context of what the store offers for model railroading (answer: virtually nothing of late), it might be relevant to the forum.
The context of their business practices and political / personal motivations is not related to the theme of this forum.
FWIW, IMO Hobby Lobby name is false advertising because they suck as a hobby shop. It's like a Michael's: same single token man-refuge aisle of generic hobby kits and paint, but with a JoAnn Fabrics + Pier1 Imports / Garden Ridge ChinaCrap home clutter distribution center mixed in. Hobbies? You may as well try to buy a motorcycle from a Chevy dealer. There were topics here a few years ago when they quit carrying trains altogether.
Oddly enough, they are also closed on Sundays like the chicken place. Hmm....
