This is a quick project that I did overnight. I picked up an Athearn BB Oscar Mayer 40 ft wood reefer car at one of the local club flea markets a while ago, and found it was an assembled kit that had no permanent gluing. I changed out the horn hooks for Kadee #5's, painted the underside weight, bracing and detail, and the roof+ends piece flat black, to get rid of the plastic look. I taped the hatches shut from underneath the roof and added 3/4 oz fishing weight inside to bring it up to it's proper NMRA guideline weight. I am still waiting to get some metal wheels, so this will be revisited in a month or so. These billboard reefers were owned by Merchant's Dispatch and leased to various companies. Oscar Mayer's more modern logo appeared in the 1960s-90s on a more modern reefer, as well.

The original box came with this one, so here is the original price ($3.00) and my flea market price ($8.00). If you want to talk about this not being a bargain, check out what is being asked for this same car on EBay!!!!! ($25.00 and up)!

Since this was a qick job, it's my COTW!
