There is a link in the Active Users section of the forums page (all the way at the bottom) which gives you some summary information about post counts, who's online, etc.. That section has always been there. One of the links used to be to a list of new members for that day. I've changed that to display the new members for the month. It's been a good month so far but I do realize there was a backlog. Here's a direct link.

There is also a link to forum statistics showing counts of members, recent visits etc. That's located at the top of every page. There is a link on that statistics page that says More... (takes time to load) That will give you some very detailed information about activity on the site. It's really starting to pick up around here.
