Well, with the acquisition of a small utility trailer this winter, I have really started to put major effort into cleaning up my yard of tree debris, and finally tackle my worst obstacle - the English and Poison Ivy scrourge that has overgrown the fenceline beside my deck. With the trailer, I was able to finally hedge-trim it to the ground while still winter, pitch-fork it into the trailer, and haul it off en mass , which really has sped up the job! Stuffing the Big Green Can wasn't cutting it, that takes forever for a big job like this. Today I was out with the shovel and pitchfork again, this time targeting the poison ivy and digging up the big rootball of each vine. Took me a few hours, but I made about 15 feet of progress sideways along the fence. Looking at the picture, you can see the bare dirt where it was covered in green this morning. I hope to get more than just a circle of track laid this year. I was up on the roof of the garage, cleaning off vines running wild on top, and thought Hey, this is a good site for taking some overview pictures.

I hope to run the track down to the left as far as the red Cherry tree, the ground then slopes down too much, so I think a 50' long run is enough to start. Planning a single main line loop with the "swan lake" at the end as a tourist attraction. Will probably put some industries in the center area to the left, once the ivy ,both english and poison, are dug up, and probably cover the ground with recycled office carpet, then put mulch or something on top of that. Will see how it goes. Just digging out all the ivy is a killer task, but I'm about half way down the fence line now, so making good progress. Just hope I can keep it up! my 52 year old bod ain't what it used to be. Here's what I have so far :

My cats aren't sure what to make of a moving train yet. Heh heh. This is a Playmobil/LGB set from the '90's, traded a guy on the Forum here some tyco parts for it, and got it running again. Need to regrease it, my LHS guy warned me these were under-lubed, and I did notice that, so I haven't run it much. Will add some grease, and try to find some Playmobil couplers, I have several broken, and so far the LGB and other types aren't the same. Oh well. Future issue. I can wire them together if need be. But for now, at least I got a train running outdoors for the first time in 12 years since I bought my house, all thanks to that trailer that is SO useful for hauling off major volume of debris at a time. Well, think it'll be a hot tub night, my back is aching. Will post more as I get more land cleared and more track laid eventually this summer.
