cheers np,the black one was easy as the previous painter used no primer so it fell off,i only used car sprays but looks ok ken

Ken,
What I think would be most appropriate as a detail behind the smoke stack would be a check valve like I have shown below. Given the hoses straddling the boiler in your photo, I think this is the intent anyway.

Frank,
I have seen them in applications where a feedwater system was not used, such as on the Savannah & Atlanta #750 locomotive here which is at the Southern Museum:

Frank, Ken I have only ever seen examples of generators directly in front of the cab somewhere or right in front of the smoke stack, near the headlight. I do not recall ever seeing any behind the smoke stack (not to say it is not possible.)

hi sean that looks just like it,so where did mantua get there idea if reading did not have them,if the loco was sold as a reading or plain mantua ken

 see detail,front pilot and check valve just like your photo as far as i can go at the moment on this one
 at moment replacing handrails on tender,plus making boiler supports

replacement handrails,posts fitted just need 0.02 inch brass wire to arrive as one made is template,and home made train tender connector with original parts fitted to it,bottom is the original just need the parts to complete this one,ken

thanks frank,doing my best,ken parts still needed valve rear headlamp coupler pin (loco to tender) 2 x small walkways
 on the pilot there is a hole in between the boiler supports anyone got ideas

Ken you asked : on the pilot there is a hole in between the boiler supports anyone got ideas * That hole is for the screw coming up from below that holds the front pilot on.

The Reading infulenced most things done on the CNJ . Both had simillar G-1 class pacifics. Mine is done for the CNJ. toptrain1
