That's interesting--I've always read that the MKT railroad had GP-38's bought from Kennecot, that had their cabs cut back down to normal height--so I guess this is what they originally looked like....

Note the extra clearance under the fuel tank,used to clear rocks and debris.

I've always liked the looks of these for some reason. They're ugly, like an RS-unit on 'roids. But I always wondered why the fuel tanks needed extra clearance... you'd think a decent plow on the pilot would take care of that. I mean, it's not like a locomotive is a rock crawler?
