After a swap with friend Gareth of the STC's sister WBC connecting lines up north of the border, the Confederated Technicolor is finally making its debut:

Headed by two Tyco Davenports in CP Rail dress, their diminutive size gets the job done.
The lead unit is a Phase I Tyco Davenport. These early units used the very same chassis and drive from the earlier Trolley and Plymouth, and can be spotted by the large posts inside the cab, and the solid stepwells. Several roadnames were offered, all in a simple two-tone paint scheme like our red unit above.
No less a star, the trailing unit is a later Powertorqued Davey. Easily spotted by the openings in the bottom step to secure the tabs for the snap-in chassis, this is an even later revision that added a slot behind the pilots to allow the steps to flex more easily.
Oh, why "Confederated Technicolor?"

That oughta explain it Colorful bunch, those Canucks! Although I guess it technically was the Yanks in Woodbury NJ who huffed too many paint fumes?

Along the lines of big steam, here's my weekend purchase--Bachmann's Niagra--a nice looking runner..Just make sure you have at least 22 inch radius curves for the tender which has five fixed axles plus a two axle truck! Got this at the Bachmann distributor's warehouse in my town for $78 new. Pretty fair, I think.

Hey Tony;
I swear in the midst of a cold Canadian Winter those Davey pics warm up my living room.
Funny how the bushes have complimentary colours in them....
Anywho, My LotW for this week, bought from Sean, a CNR SW1200rs project to convert an Athearn SW7 into an SW1200rs. Likely will move the add on pieces to a P2K SW1200 when I can find one cheap...
What I hope it will look like eventually...

Ah, the mi-jack operator at the transfer house was on a bit of a bender...
Actually I'd been doing some housecleaning on the layout and stacked them out of the way temporarily, then got inspired to do this shot before remembering to put them back...

Uh, it's a tool that no one wants to have to use... believe it or not, it's a rerailer. Weighs approximately 50lbs, I think.
Sorta gone by the wayside as polling pockets at the end corners of most every freight and passenger car. That long round pole hanging on steam locomotive tenders, and on gas-electric and early diesel locomotives are/were used to fit "pole" railcars into tracks not negotiable for locomotives... the pole was placed and held by one of the brakemen. Chains were used to get those same railcars back onto rails that can handle the locomotives.
Yeah, ya just can't make use of the rerailers these days with the much longer cars. Call the Hulcher Service and bring your cranes.
More of an answer you were expecting, but, it's all there.
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Got a bit of a odd ball this week.
Brother picked me up some random engines on his way home from his honeymoon. Got them at a flea market near Steamtown. This was one of them. A Athearn GP7/9 that someone krylon'd black. Poor thing I think after attempting to paint this the owner abandon it for awhile. Because despite its looks the driveline on this one purrs like it has no miles on it. Just loves to run. Even more odd, someone tried to letter it in their own roadname...in black letters lol. And they left the one end of the hood unpainted, showing off its former UP heritage. I might just weather it someday since the paint is all cracked. Make it sort of a short line one off? I dunno, its a blank canvas to me

ChrisC, I have had some luck removing paint like that from engines and the original paint remains in good to nice condition. I think I used diosol, out of production, to remove paint off of a AHM Kraus Maffei loco and used something else, that I can't remember now, maybe camelion in small amounts applied to a toothbrush then apply more, to take the weathering off of a Tyco GT C430. You might try that since you're thinking about repainting eventually. I'll bet you'd be suprized how nice it turns out if you go at it removing a little at a time.
tkruger, nice work on the repowering project. I'd like to custom paint some GPs eventually.

These are several steamers I got in a large HO collection I purchased last weekend. There where over 130 engines and 400 freight cars.
THe 1st one is a Rivarossi John Wilkes 4-6-2 Pacific and the 2nd one is a Mantua B&O President Adams.

Thanks for the idea Alco Fan I might give that a shot sometime. I kinda love its character though since there is a local shortline that has one almost like it. Except they got theirs from NW and as of lately the NW is starting to show though the black on it haha.
Also some great looking steam engines this week guys very nice!

Nice John Wilkes, John. Those locos go for ridiculous money on eBay. I think I've seen them go for $500 - $700.
