Now that I am at the conclusion of selling most of my 3rd boxed/unboxed collection, I have decided to begin picking up LOOSE, MINT/VGC+ rolling stock. I am going for the common billboards first, and general freight second. Aside from Tropicanas, Bubble Yums, Corn Kings, Johnson Waxes, True Values, etc...I will stick to the cataloged stuff.

I WILL, however, continue to help my fellow brethern with rare finds as I locate and buy the unboxed, easy stuff. If I "sees" it, I will "reports" it.

I will NOT be pursuing rare locomotives...GM&O, WP, GT, etc. or ANY locomotives, for that matter...nor will I pursue private road/rare billboard promo cars, like the Boy Scouts car, or Hobby Shop cars.
I am keeping it simple and inexpensive, and will be mixing 'em into my other rolling stock for runners. Fun stuff...to add a splash of color and nostalgia.

When the mood hits...and I tire of running McKean, Proto 2K, Kato, Atlas, Roundhouse and Front Range, and I begin to yearn for "yesterday"...I can lash-up a colorful billboard consist, and have some fun.

So...I'm telling you all this...as I have no intention of running to this forum every time I want to bid on something and post it. That is SILLY.

Have at all the MIB and uber-rare stuff, gents. I'm going to scale WAAAY back and keep it simple.

Look for me out there on unboxed, easy stuff.

Collecting is enjoyable however you do it, it's got to be right for you. You're right, running here before bidding is silly, I hope nobody got that impression.

ThOR - that's pretty much what I'm doing, for the most part. Those billboard cars do look nifty at times.

I generally don't care if something has a box or not, but that Rio SD happens to have one. As well as two other locos I can use. I'm only going after the SD's cuz there's just 5 of them - a nice, reasonable expense. As opposed to GP20s and 430's - ai yi yi [:O]

And I'm not going to ask permission either, unless I know someone wants it more than I. And if I don't know? Fair game. I kept my own list short.

But I'll probably be eying some of the same auctions you do, depending on what catches my eye at any given time. Loose cars need to be rescued sometimes. But then didn't you just part with a bunch? [:P]

Thor:

No one is suggesting you have to do anything in regards to how you bid on an Ebay auction, but I don't feel the least bit "silly" for checking on the Ebay section if someone else has a serious interest in an Ebay auction item.

The suggestion was to a co-operative effort not a Pavlovian one of silliness as you suggest.

Cheers,
Gareth

Gareth,
There is nothing Pavlovian meant in my comments, although it could be read that way, if you do not know me personally. I apologize if it came across that way. The internet is helpful, but kind of impersonal.

If you noticed in the 2nd paragraph of my post...I mentioned that I will still point to the bread crumb trails for others. I find things all of the time that do NOT appear on eBay. [^]

Happy Hunting,
ThOR

Yes...GiC...I know...I think it is more of the "hunt" at times, than the "conclusion."

Hmmm, like the hunt... like the kill,...like it all. I have to say it's fun unpacking the box the "prey" arrives in! [^]
