I am aware of this tool- and it's price of $12.00, not that it is that much---- but, I was looking at the possibility of a cheaper alternative. Does anyone have a suggestion, or should I just bite the bullet and get the one from MicroMark?

When I wrote that original post, I was stymied by the fact that my new metal wheels weren't rolling freely.
Then I remembered that MicroMark truck tuner tool. But wait, there's more...

Today, using just a miniature needle file and an old metal dental tool, I scraped what was rust and corrosion
from the inside axle housing wall and the end interior face of each metal receptacle of the truck side frames, then cleaned the insulated Delrin receptacle on the opposite side with the same needle file wrapped in an old piece of thin cloth saturated with alcohol. After replacing the new metal wheels in the truck, it rolled freely on my test track.

Lesson learned- cleaning parts first will solve a lot of issues that may seem more complex and if the problems remain, THEN move on to a more elaborate (and perhaps expensive) solution.

I didn't order that truck tuner (yet) and saved more than the $12.00, shipping would have raised it to over $15.00

Ron,

If you're talking about your Athearn dummy unit, the truck tuner only works on journals for pointed axles. It reshapes them for the optimal angle.
