Hello everyone, I bought a 74 era set, "the durango" it worked fine for about 3 or four hours. the engine now squeels but does not move, all the lights come on but thats it. My 6 year old was running it when it quit, he says was going just fine then stopped. any help identifying what to do would be great, thanks ya'll

Squealing usually comes from the motor needing oil on the bushings on the ends of the armature where it spins. But if the motor is spinning the the wheels don't move, it sounds like the pinion gear on the motor is either slipping or has come off. Try a very small amount of oil on the ends of the motor armature and see if it goes. If it runs and doesn't move, check the gears and re-attach any that are off. You may need to use glue on the pinion if it is slipping. Just be careful not to get the glue where you don't want it. If this is a flat power torque motor there is a great guide to rebuild them somewhere around here... But the oil would go under the pinion gear and on the other side in the middle of the plastic cover where you see the metal shaft. I am in a hurry, but good luck.

The squeal means a dry bearing as Chris has stated. Check that metal gear thats very small and is the pinion gear. If it spins on the shaft and no the armarture, its loose. Take it off and use a tooth pick to apply super glue ( a very small dab ) to the pinion's hole and a little to the shaft. Let it dry for a few minutes. If its too moist. it'll drip in the bearing's hole and sieze the motor! Trust me, it happened to me once. Most power torques have this issue. Afterwards, try it out. Finally, lightly oil the motor's bearings and be sure it doesn't drip into the motor's brushes and commutor.

Thanks ya'll, I did the things that were recomended and it works just fine. The little gear got loose, squeeled and then fell off, oiled the engine and glued the gear problem solved.
