While thinking about other options for putting in a headlight lense in older Tyco engines, I ran across one of my old company products, a V35 breakout test PCB. In front, it has these grainy convex light-pipe lenses for the LEDs to shine through. Hmmm....I finally pried one out without damaging the front panel, as my inventory control server is down, so I can't find if we still have these in stock anymore. Anyway, I brought one home, and lo & behold, with a little filing, it fits the Mantua F7 hole snugly. And looks a bit more realistic than an LED bulbous nose, though that works ok too.
Anyway,. while searching the Internet for these things, I found a link to a similar one.

These lenses are called PLPs, or Panel Light Pipes. the one I have is similar to PLP2-125, a 1/8th inch long version. I think these are close to the ones manufacturers put in their engines anyway. About the same amount of convex lense shape. They run about 45 cents each. Buy a few dozen, and you're set.

Just thought I'd mention my findings, as I have plenty of empty-nose engines I could use these on. I'll post a picture later of Traindolph 1 with a new clear nose.
