I imagine some road names were harder to find than others. I have a green and yellow Fleischmann 1340, I think I paid $3 , averaged, in a lot I bought last year. They seem to sell in the 30-50 range for the 1340 engine you pictured. I haven't seen that particular color, though, can't make out the roadname. But unless it's something totally rare, like an AEC Hustler or something, I can't see it going for that kind of money. Obviously, it IS, so something is up with it.

I've got a CNW one.

And since you're all my friends I'll offer it for the bargain price of only $300.

Any takers?

I think that paint scheme makes it a very early and RARE model. The C&NW version still fetches nearly $100 at times.

Ken,

Here is one I have listed that you might like to watch. It was at $132 before the listing was 12 hours old.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/370571939280?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

It is another rare paint scheme. I know nothing about it.

Here's my "ugly" 1340, has had a non-professional repaint done to it. Not sure if I should try to strip it or not. It was originally yellow and green CNW version, very common.

@ Jerry: You might have luck with a series of short soaks in brake fluid or easy-off oven cleaner. Then use a stiff plastic brush (with rubber cloves) and lightly scrub off the top layer. These are light stripping agents and will allow you to remove the paint one layer at a time if done carefully and systematically. Your only hope is the paint below is not too badly chipped. The decals will not survive either.

Either that or a full strip and complete repaint. I would still put a $40-$50 value on your piece for the parts alone.

@ Ken: Using Google Translate, The first one on the link above looks like the one to me:

1340 Diesellocomotief

grijs (Gray)/ rood met rode strepen (with red stripes) , eenpuntsverlichting

190 USA

US

Sorry Ken, I do not understand. Please explain? Are you referring to this line in my listing:

"I WILL ONLY SHIP ITEMS TO MEXICO & ITALY VIA PRIORITY MAIL INTERNATIONAL"

Ken,

Final sale price.... $430.00 US

I almost passed out when I saw that. I knew from the paint that it was rare, but I never thought that rare. It went to a gent in Germany.
