Hi Erich,
Here is where I'm at with this project so far.
I moved the boiler weight back just enough to clear the motor so I can put a smoker in. This worked fine.
I had to come up with a way to rebuild the valve rod rear hanger if you look close you will see 3 rods I glued on in just the right spot so every is clear. works fine.It had to be fixed as you said the unit is 50 years old and no parts.
I bashed a boiler front to fit in the cab not much room but it worked out fine.
I have 2 boiler fronts one with a head light and the orginal without a light I like the one with. The brushes you sent work great this motor works like a new one. I am hoping to have it done before Christmas.
Let me know what you think of what I have done so far.
Thanks again for all your help.
Ken

Nice Job Ken!

Brushes are from Märklin! On the prototype BR 42 or 52, they left away everything what was not absolute
necessary. The third light on the smoke box door is an after war ingredient!

This is a 42 from Luxemburg she wears the third light on the box door!
the photo was take in June 2004. - Erich

Well here I sit with tears running down my face.
I got my DR42 finished last night and it ran like a champ UNTIL a valve gear pin cam out and she took a dive to the floor. The engine is only hod minor damage the tender was OK.. I discovered that all valve gear pins had been flattened to make them stay in place which does not work. Now I have to figure out how to fix it.The wheels are bakalite and I am afraid I will brake them when I try to remove them so I will see if I can get new drive wheels to work. Now that will be fun to change 8 wheels and fine 2 without the tires. Nobody said this was going to be easy.

Ken can you remove the pins and rivet the valve gear like a Tyco Mantua 4-6-2 or 2-8-2 has. Also you mentioned pins in wheels. I think you can tap a thread into bake-o-lite castings.
You made me think. i have a revell BR42 model. A Kleimbahn tender. And a choice of 2 drives.

Frank,
I just got the wheels off and the way they were put together is with pins.. The wheels need to be replaced if I knew how to measure them I might be able to new ones. The axle is 3mm the tire is 25.5mm the running surface is 16mm.I have a set in my stuff box and they are the right size except for the axle hole I could drill them out but I only have 2 and have no idea what they came off. Any help you can give me would be great i really want to get the unit going as I spent a lot of time so far and I'm not one to quit.
Thanks.

Ken,

Here's links to both Bowser and Greenway. Click on 'Misc Parts I' on Bowser's page to get the pdf with drivers. I'm not sure how much either of them has left in stock.

After reading all I can I have yet to see any info on drive wheels I know you guys know just by looking but I new at this so bear with me. I think the ones on my BR42 are 69' but I'm not sure. Any help would be great.

attached is a picture of the drive wheels and a set I have that is the right size but the axle hole is smaller. The ones with the inside flange I can use washers.
I would like to get ones the same as the sample I show thus way they have a nut in wheel for the valve gear bolt. I don't want to use pins unless i have to.
If anyone can help this old feller out he would be a happy camper.
Thanks.

Ken ; With me out of the two drives I hope to get one that will work. I drive is the Tyco 2-8-0, I regeared 4 years age and made a decapod out of. The other is a Haruaka 2-10-2 german style tanker. I lettered it for the CNJ. I think it may be a little small. The body is the length of a LILIPUT 4-6-4 tanker.

Ken, if you divide the prototype size of the drivers by 87, that will give you the size for HO in thousandths of an inch.

Hi Ken!

If you use other wheels you may need new main rods!
Why not glue the pins in place and have fun? - Erich
