Unknowing to me today - My Custom Christmas train made the front page of a local newspaper in a section called " In Focus ". It is to be in another local paper on NOV 30th. Will try to get pictures or links if possible. The photographer called me tonight saying it could be in several more after these 2 papers featuring Christmas. I never thought this but is good exposure to the hobby. The photographer is into trains also. I did put a web address in for the Tyco forum as well as my YouTube videos - well see if they get printed on the Nov 30th paper as it is to be more detailed article.
Here is actual newspaper page photo's from Gastonia Gazette Friday Nov 25th 2011 /tyco/forum/uploaded/BriansTyco/20111127203922_031.JPG /tyco/forum/uploaded/BriansTyco/20111127203944_032.JPG

Congratulations! That's what I was saying in the other thread: you're spreading the word. Not only about trains, but Christmas and good times in general. We should all be like you.

Sweet job! My club is also seeking ways to expand our membership, as over time it naturally shrinks and people move out of the hobby, so you need fresh input of flesh to cover the losses. Having a public display like this that catches the eyes and imaginations of others, and isn't about rivets but about FUN, that is cause for celebration. I think more people should have fun with trains than total immersion in scale realism. That's impressive, but sometimes you just wanna have fun with them. Thanks for your efforts and unintended results! Happy Holidays!

Good job, Brian. This should really up the attendance, and hopefully requests for train sets this year. That trestle is amazing, and I like the steamer (Mikado?) in the photo as well.
Just don't let all this celebrity go to your head.

Won't go to my head . Yes - hope it increases sales. There were comments made by some in the crowd that they were tired of seeing the coal train on the layout and some of the other trains that were detailed - dull to them - they wanted to see color and variety. Next year - I will be taking some of my Tyco advertising cars and other billboard cars to be pulled by another train.

Awesome. That's why we're here, isn't it? It's the same thing at one of the shows I go to: Thomas is the hero, everything else is just a train.
That's probably part of the reason there's less interest in real trains. Many of them, at least around here, are just endless strings of exactly the same coal or grain car.

Thank you all for the comments - Appreciate it. I am still making local papers and my video's on Youtube have soared in views since one published links. Hope the forum has seen an increase too. I was featured this past wednesday in another local FREE paper. Will get copies and post soon. The public response has been very positive as interest too. Some have called a local hobby shop to contact me to fix their trains - Meeting one individual at McDonalds on Sat Dec 10th 2011 to see about repairing his train bought by his dad many years ago

The hobby could use more of this. You know how at swimming pools, they have a "time out" so adults can get in and swim around without all the kids splashing and playing? Well, with trains, we need a reverse action, an adult "time out" so more toy trains and fun trains can run on the layouts instead of unit trains with "boring" loads. Yo, rivet counters, take a break and let the Tyco Trains run awhile! Turbo, coming thru!
