its amazing that one person here in uk who is selling some really nice pieces from mantua made 50s/60s,would make a statement such as below, with all the information on internet i find it very lazy and misleading ken ( I have no idea whether Mantua are still producing these lovely, detailed models,<span id='hl' style='background-color: darkviolet'>most people in this hobby have never heard of them [/hl]. I would guess they date from the 1960s, clearly a talking point and an unusual, if not unique, feature on a varied layout.

In in the medical parlance, that is called a "quack".

That's so typical on eBay, and it drives me nuts. People list something and say "I don't know anything about X." Apparently they're too lazy to do a Google search, or search eBay to see what they're going for.

I don't think the guy is that ignorant, I think it's a type of sales hype, he's baiting potential buyers. reading between the lines..... these are great models I rediscovered, most people don't even know about it. Be the first person on your block to have these forgotten treasures, WOW your fellow train enthusiasts. Have the admiration of fellow modelers with your acquisition savy
"clearly a talking point and an unusual, if not unique, feature on a varied layout".
See what I mean? clearly a talking point Is it really? unusual Huh? Like NickelPlate said, a quick Google search will show that Mantua is quite common. Right now on ebay, Nov. 22, 6:30 p.m. PST, there are 1,350 auctions listed in the Mantua category. Mantua is about as common as dirt and he's trying to hype it to be gold. (Yes, I know there are some rare and sought after Mantua products).

Most are so common, the might as well fall from the sky, and others are rarer than Hens teeth, such as the POTUS So76.

What he SHOULD have posted would be to say " Most people OUTSIDE THE HOBBY have never heard of them." That would have been a more correct statement. I doubt if you walk up to Wal-mart Buyer X and ask if they know what a Mantua ( Man-Chew_Ah ) is, they'd look at you strangely. And how many people KNOW how to pronounce it correctly, too? I pronounced it Man-Too-Ah for years myself, before finally reading the correct pronunciation on it last year. And I've been into model trains for literally years, I'm 51 now. So I don't think he's lying or mis-representing the facts, but rather talking to the side of the hobby that knows nothing about trains except that they have wheels, and are a diesel or steam engine. He's not talking to those of us who know what Bettendorf or Velocipede means. He's talking to the 99%.
