I had a idea on taking 2 Mantua 0-4-0T's from the 70's which have the plastic boiler. I thoughy I could move the motor onto it's side, add a shaft so 2 of the 4 axles will still have gearing and add a u-joint and add a pivot to the frame. I'd cut one boiler's smoke box off and one bodie's cab off. Then finally add a 2 wheel lead/trailing truck. Any ideas? Also, how would the frame swing away the boiler to cover a 22" curve radius and still have the chests in place and the boiler to?

Justin:
Roundhouse/MDC does a kit of a 0-4-4-0 Mallet or it can be made into a 2-4-4-2 aswell and I think an 0-8-0. Anyway it will supply much of what you need in a more ready fashion than what you're contemplating. I know I had thought of doing a double ended docksider at one point but I currently have over 55 project plans on outline form. Gotta stop planning at some point and build.
Anyway look up I think it was called Bear Mountain and MDC or Roundhouse. If you find it, I have a build article I can send you that Ray Marinaccio sent me some time back...
Hope that helps.

As in expensive?
Not always, It's not powered, it was designed to be a static locomotive for the layout. But they can be powered.
It's called a Moose Jaws 0-8-0 on the box. Normally $35-50. I got mine on ebay a few years ago for $35.
Hope the page gives you an idea?

Anyone have a set of cylinders, (I could actually use 2 sets) of the type cylinders pictured on the MDC Roundhouse 2-4-4-2? I don't care if they are from that engine, I just need the type of cylinders that they are, Mantua, Bowser, MDC Roundhouse, or any others that had made them as long as they look like those pictured in that posted article.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
