Such a sad sight! It'd be a neat thing to operate on a layout like Eric Brooman's! Just imagine that check from the scrap yard! If I owned a railserved scrap yard and had old engines like that, I'd donate some to musuems and scrap that worst engines!Maybe donate some spares for parts!

unlike most other countries we had a cut off date for steam, and when it came every steam train was sent to the scrap yard, thousands in a few days, one of the biggest scrap yards was barrys, very good info for those interested to take a look, barrys scrapyard sold hundreds to preservation railways,so it turned to selling parts rather than cutting them up,ken
http://www.penmorfa.com/Barry/index.htm
out of 300 sent for scrap 213 were saved, along with a lot of spares
the preserved locos saved from barry

That's how I saw it! Thank you CNVIATyco! & here is a link to exact dummy(?) loco
http://www.ozarkmountainrailcar.com/detail.asp?id=450&n=MARC-CBQ-E-9-91-REDUCED
Now they did have a running one but looks like it got sold
Would a empty unit like this work as a dummy loco? I'd have it so the controls would connect to a power unit

I think somewhere in my paperwork stash, I have the cover of the Chicago Sun-Times that featured the last run of these units on the famous BN / Metra Chicago-Aurora "racetrack". Had a photo of a conductor shining up the nose of the lead unit with a rag, letting them go out in style.

They say diesels don't have the personality of steam, but tell me you couldn't hear the sobs in the throes of that lead unit in the video.
