I have a Sante Fe and Disneyland train set i purchased from a hobby shop over 10 years ago. It is a Mantua 4-4-0 Named E.S.Marsh. the tender is lettered Sante Fe and Disneyland. It has 3 cars. They are 2 passenger cars with inserts in the windows of passengers. the 3rd car is a mail car. All 3 cars are labeled Sante Fe and Disneyland. All 3 cars are labeled on the bottom Mantua and Tyco. i was told that it is a commerative edition for the opening of Disneyland. I have contacted Mantua and they said all the records are with Tyco. So far I haven't had any luck in finding out any info. Any help would be great.

If anyone has any pieces of the Disneyland train for sale or other - please let me know. I'm looking for a set - doesn't have to be perfect at all - just enough that I can restore it if need be.

Depends on what you mean by huge. I'm not looking for mint, or even box, as I run my trains, and they are a hobby, toy, enjoyment, etc. Besides, a little use gives free "weathering" - lol.

Any ideas on what you mean by huge?

Here's a link to Tony's page on the set.

I would collect similar pieces and paint and letter my own "clone" set.

For what you're wanting to do, Ray's got the right idea. If running on the cheap is paramount and all you want is a fun vestige, then make your own. I've done this in the past and still do to an extent.

But there are some sets that can't be had cheap without a rare stroke of sheer dumb luck, and the SF&D is one of them. (Civil War, Petticoat, Talgo, and certain passenger sets would be others). Individual cars don't turn up often, and usually go high when they do. Forget getting anything near a serviceable (notice I did not say mint) example for less than $100. IIRC the last set I saw was over $250 and a loose car was $40. Sure you might find one cheap now and then but the time spent searching and lurking and pining to pounce often ends up costing more in the end.

There is a water car listed now. It's pretty plain and the opening price + shipping is already over your self-imposed price threshold.

But the paint scheme is so stupid simple it would be easy to mock your own.

I know there have been some Walt Disney World trains that are newer by other manufacturers. Has anyone else done Disneyland?

I know - what I've spent so far amazes even me that I have a working layout - complete with original Tyco transformer. What I want to do is way ambitious and doesn't seem to be cheap. Then again, I buy track at yard sales and have mixed steel, brass and silver-nickel. Filing junctions can help - lol.

I like the idea of possibly lettering my own - hadn't thought of that! Cheapness always wins out! I will do more research unless any of you would like to volunteer it because you already know what I would need to start off. These I would like to model as close to what is in the park as I can.

And yes, I got the "this ought to be entertaining" reference above. I really do like to have fun and this promises to be so.
