Post your real pictures of railroads that use to run or are banked or relics of railroads long ago. MY picture is of rails long gone on Spencer Mtn Rd in Gaston County NC. These are the only rails left of where they use to run
Rails are still under pavement - Spencer Mtn Rd - Gaston County NC

I wish I had my camera with me. Around here they are tearing up the road to put in light rail and all the old street car rails were still under the pavement.

neato CamdenLine I'd be asking if I could have the bricks There is the old CNW line called the Cowboy Line up north of me & I heard that there's been some surveying on the line for reactivation Was pretty stupid of CNW to abandon the line Especially since the coal from Wyoming has exploded Then we have the ex-BN line from Edgemont,SD to Lead (leed) & Deadwood,SD & Ex-Milwaukee from Rapid City,SD to Chamberlin,SD That line is mostly intact Should mention the line from Edgemont,SD to Lead (leed) & Deadwood,SD is a trail now

Interesting topic you started Bt. I have a fascination for old RR tracks. Here is my contribution: Old tracks from the Yancey County R.R., Micaville, NC

railroad existed from 1955-1985 How long is that section of track anyway? If it weren't for the trees I'd get a handcar & travel the rails

Lots of free scrap metal! My dad does road work in my area and in downtown Jacksonville FL he hit rails still imbedded in old bricks! Then on the St John's river where the Berkman Plaza stands, my stepdad, a plumber at the time said there was old ACL frieght cars acting as fillers!

Are those tracks now part of the local private properties? Microbuss has a point, it'd be fun to clean it up, and make it usable again for locals with rail bikes or speeders. Have it all one way for certain hours, then the other way the other times, so people know they can't just go either direction. Anyway, that is cool.

What you see is about all there is. That part is in someone's yard. That's his garden. The track do go under the road in the first picture. But in the other direction I couldn't find anymore existence of them. Doesn't mean they aren't there but, because of heavy foliage and property lines I couldn't find anymore of it. One of the Yancey County locos is sitting in a small scrap yard about a 1/2 mile from those tracks.

How could I forget this one. Duval County/Jacksonville "bike rail trail". Old abandoned track left to rot when CSXT formed and came to Bladwin and started ripping up track! The old Baldwin depot still stands. I'll take pics next time I'm out there.

I'd like 'em boards if they ever tore down the bridge! Here's another aboandoned RR in my area, the St. Mary's Rwy. The big paper mill shut down in St Mary's GA (nears King's Bay Navy Base) and its been 10 years!

Check out George Elwood's excellent railroad picture site for vintage photos of the Yancy RR locos. I do have a recent photo of the locomotive, but I think it is on print film.

Back in 2005, when I got laid off, my Mother fell and hurt her hip, so I stayed in Richmond, VA to help out for 2-3 weeks until she got better. One of the things I did was to travel around Richmond and Petersburg areas and look at old railroad areas. These are a few of the pics I took of some long-unused industrial lines that are slowly disappearing into the turf and asphalt. Sad but inevitable. Here we go -

Above - these tracks are probably Seaboard originally, right next to a small Seaboard train museum on the south side of Richmond across the river. THought this was an interesting view of two tracks converging on a dumpster.

Above - these tracks will probably get ripped up, if not already. North of the river near the Seaboard train museum, in the heart of downtown Richmond amid new construction.

Above - these two tracks are the access to an old industrial park that was very busy during the war years, there's a building with Seaboard Box Company still painted on the side. CSX has already pulled up the rails to access this park, not that there's much there to access anymore, tracks are either overgrown, paved over, or sinking into the ground. This park is about 2 miles from my parents house.

Above - losing ground to paving, no more access to building.

Above, same park, tight squeeze between buildings, I'd love to see a WWII era RR map of the trackage here . Maybe I can find it in the archives in downtown City Hall someday.

Above - oops, back to the park near the Seaboard museum on south side. I love the brickwork still left between the rails. Got to have had steam dockside type switchers around these areas.

Above - branching tracks behind a carwash, used to be Kellys Jet Fast Food, a precursor to McDonald's. I used to go there on Sunday's with my family regularly. These accessed some warehouses along the Boulevarde main road about 100 feet away to the right.
I have many more pics like this of this area, and some others around Richmond, and of one of Petersburg's passenger train areas. Don't want to overwhelm the server Hope you enjoyed these industrial abandoned lines of Richmond, VA, USA.

I don't have many pics since there's not much to take pictures of, but the mainline of the Frankfort & Cincinnati RR still exists as a stark swath across Frankfort, KY. If you look at Google Earth it's pretty easy to pick out where the line used to extend from downtown, head E through a few subdivisions (including where I live) and across the Elkhorn Creek into the Jim Beam (formerly Old Granddad) distillery. The F&C at one point went as far as Paris, KY before being cut back to Georgetown, and then later just to Jim Beam. A derailment severely damaged the bridge to Jim Beam in 1986 or 1987 (too many conflicting dates in print) and there was not enough revenue to make repairs economical (with the distilleries the only major on-line customers, it had been a hand-to-mouth operation for many years), so the entire RR was abandoned and all rails subsequently removed. Shame: I would have loved to see the trains crossing the frighteningly outdated viaduct trestle crossing US127/421 some 200+ feet up - using empty idler boxcars between massive 4-bay centerflow hoppers, all hauled by the F&C's diminutive but sharp secondhand Alco S-2s.
Another portion of the line, rather than climbing the KY River valley out ot town toward Jim Beam, forked off from the F&C terminal in downtown Frankfort, to the OFC (now Buffalo Trace) distillery - it was abandoned at the same time if not a little earlier.
A few years ago I went on a drive to retrace the line as far as Stamping Ground KY, site of the defunct Buffalo Springs distillery. Weren't any places to pull over for better access or pictures, but numerous pilings and abutments still exist in the Elkhorn Creek, and that part was ripped up some 40 years ago. There are lots of telltales like this around Frankfort but I've never bothered to take pics. The pilings for the Jim Beam bridge still exist, too - I thought I did get pics of those, but I haven't. Phooey!

Looks more like a trailer park than a salvage yard. Anyway, Would be great to try to save that engine, looks mostly intact. Shame to let it go to waste. C'mon, lottery!

ok I got the pix I promised yesterday after I got gas & went to a farm & ranch show I thought this odd for pillars for a bridge
This also neat a still intact trestle!
 Close up of top
This is the other track It was for hauling sugar beets as was the above pictures & what usually happens to the trestles
The milepost at former bridge 3.15 miles Would love to get permission, cut it off & take it home
Kinda neat there was a railroad spike on milepost I should mention that most abandoned railbeds get either trailed or ripped up & reverted to farmland out here

| Nice photos. These next ones taken in Metuchen New Jersey.
Former Lehigh Railroad branch line converted to trail path.
Over three mile length with nice scenery.
Hiked this a bit after train show in Edison New Jersey. Had a great time over there and met with Frank. Afterwards hiked this trail near NJ transit rail station.

Anyone been to the remains of Kate Shelly's Bridge?
I remember a trip to North Carolina MANY years ago A gas Station used a REAL railroad tank car as an advertising piece
And abandoned tracks were in people's front yards
That was back in the seventies
NO ONE SAW MY HI-LINE PICES?
So

Formerly a goods line used by NYC Penn Central Conrail The line was abandoned 1980 or so used for meat packers
The line elavated above the street was unused for over thirty years UNTIL it was turned into a walk way park
My last visit to NY toy fair AND the fact that it is literally spitting distance from Javitz went on it
Hope to go back in April May when more vegetation is out Despite this it still has some sights including the variuos tracks CSX now owns the tracks and it was part of an arrangement to keep tracks on walkway
various veiws

AHHHHHHHHH the price of Democracy many a site there
AND The Hudson rail yards At one point there is a "concert"? pre recorded train horns
