I'm hoping Irene doesn't come too far inland, but fortunately I'm not in a low lying area if it does. Better bag up those trains in case they end up floating.

Geez, a hurricane and an earthquake all in one week... what's next, plagues & locusts?

* It is a gloomy morning and we here are awaiting Irene's visit. The south shore of Statin Island is being evacuated. It floods with heavy rain. Usually only the center of intersections. It is said the storm surge will make it worse. The Barrier islands along the jersey shore are being emptied of people. Here in Bayonne all housing along the shore lines are being evacuated. We are on a peninsula, between 2 bays and a Kull. I wonder how the Caroline's are doing. The storm is worse down there. It should be hitting them around now.
* May it just be another rain storm of no consequences.

From the FEMA Weather desk....

"As Hurricane Irene prepares to batter the East Coast, federal disaster officials warned that Internet outages could force people to interact with other people for the first time in years. Residents braced themselves for the horror of awkward silences and unwanted eye contact. FEMA advised: “Be prepared. Write down possible topics to talk about in advance. Sports...the weather. Remember, a conversation is basically a series of Facebook updates strung together."

G - I am roughly 300 miles from impact on the North Carolina coast - around 400+ miles to the Barrier Islands or 6 hr drive. If the storm would have hit Charleston SC - I would then been in direct path. Thanks for remembering me during storms - lol -your friend Brian - All the Charlotte / Gastonia NC area received from Irene was a nice /gusty at imes / breeze and bands of clouds - no rain

Washington DC area missed the worst of it, I think. virtually no damage in my Virginia neighborhood, some leaves and small branchlets were the main casualties of the winds. Didn't even lose power last night. Since that micro-burst a few months ago took out quite a few weak trees, I think we didn't have any left to lose unless we had really STRONG winds. And probably no more than 40-50 mph gusts. I slept thru the worst of it. Got up this morning, sunny and windy, very nice out.
Glad to see TycoForums back up, I miss it when I'm away too long. LOL.
