I'm gonna guess the green thing is a RR lantern "lense" or similar? I had a working crossbuck lighted railroad pole in my driveway a while back. I bought one green lense for it that I would install during the month of December.

It looks more like you use them to protect the lid of your garbage can.

Not to dig up an old thread, but here is some more real BN railroadiana. This is one of the real Prime Stratolite flasher beacons from the pre ditch light era. This version can be converted to run on 12vdc instead of the normal 74vdc used on the locomotive by just changing the light bulbs to 36wt tractor sealed beams. I personaly removed this light from a GP10(GP7u) road number 1410. I also have one of her glass number boards. The local short line had 2 of the BN rebuilds, 1410 and 1416. I worked in the shop and got the goodies when we repainted them and installed ditch lights. I think I might have other Burlington Northern or before stuff but this is all I could find at the moment.

Those huge beacons show up on ebay from time to time. The early model (8901) has analog circuitry and requires 74vdc to operate. Mine is model 8911, it and the later 8913 have digital circuitry and will work on 12vdc with the correct 12vdc light bulbs installed. I have both styles, my 8901 came off a BN U boat of unknown road number. It got its base painted black at some time and has cascade green overspray on it. Mike

Yes. they simulate rotation electronicly. If you remember, BN used to have the rounded top Federal Signal Commander beacons that actualy rotated, kind of looked like the old Mayberry police car light but with a finned cast alum base. When EOT's started showing up, the motor that rotated the light caused interferance with the telementary. So they switched to the Prime brand electronic beacons. They flashed one bulb at a time, 1-2-3-4-1-2-3 ect. They are quite large in person. MIke
