I picked up a couple today, one 40 ton EMD Critter, and one #319 Wild West Show Mogul 2-6-0, both for $25 each. Both out of Production. Critter was $70 new in 2006, the Mogul RTR was $150, but mine is a kit. Never owned a Roundhouse engine before, I like the critter, it's DCC ready, I'm currently at the PC cutting away flashing on the Mogul. Both look to be high quality. Any comments on their running abilities, etc. ? I'll post pictures in the LOTW on Sunday of one, then the other next week. :)

They seem to be pretty good. There N scale steamers got an A on a loco encyclipedia. Then Athearn (Horizion) got there tooling, but, sell it as "Roundhouse". I imagine Roundhouse is good at engines as there cars are good kits.

Can't go wrong with them, especially at that price...

That's what I'm saying, too! I went at lunch, then when I got back to the office, I researched them both online, and decided that they must be good at those original prices. I like the small diesels, and don't have many of the under-44 ton class, so for that price, and DCC ready, seemed like a good buy. I didn't know the #319 Wild West Show mogul was a limited production, has a sheet inside says 447 of 500, and it's signed. Looks like a nice kit. I'll probably put it together eventually. :) Like my other zillion projects I've started and never finished totally. Going to try to finish SOME this year, got them on a list, anyway.

I have the Roundhouse 2-6-2 Prairie. Had to wait and save some money to buy the kit. I really like the cast metal engine kits, no matter who makes them. I'm not familiar with the EMD unit.
My experience has been with Roundhouse mid 1990's and earlier. If there is any concern
with them, is the motors. They are decent runners but, can be much improved with a can motor.
For that matter, so can many other locos. Can't go wrong with the price you paid for those.

Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.
