I have a early tri-ang steamer with a dead Pitman open case motor which is dead
is there a modern can motor that will slip into same place and take the worm gear to be able to mesh ?javascript:insertsmilie('')

I think yardbird trains has replacements. Or if you don't mind getting your hands dirty you can build your own replacement!


I pulled apart the dead pitman. Soldered some brass onto the existing motor frame. Kept the worm & axle in place by using parts off the old motor and gluing bushings on the shaft to keep it centered. Installed the new motor via some double sided tape to the brass I added on. And connected the two with some flexible fuel line. Worked beautifully when I bench tested it. Sadly the engine is still waiting on some detail parts I never got around to finding.

Thank you for that info ,I can see what you've done and I can also see how to insulate the can so as to run it in DCC format which I'm looking to do
