... would you grab going out the door assuming everyone else was out and all the usual idiot control conditions neccesary for this scenario were in place so that somehow you were actually thinking about model train things (you poor sick bastards!) as you ran out.
"No lazy man loads" as my Mom would have said! One thing in each hand only!
So to start us off:
1) Bowser/Athearn Custom built Metal FM H16-44 (PRR) Original Bowser metal H16-44 FM road switcher. It has a tuned athearn drive with the Athearn flat can motor and brass flywheels, "Crystal Clear" cab glass, MV lenses and Kadee couplers. This is an all metal loco and weighing about 2lbs on the rails. It has been lubed and tested.
MODEL IS AIRBRUSH PAINTED AND HAS MICROSCALE LETTERING, ALL STANDARD DETAILS AND RAILINGS ARE PRESENT, CORRECT SMOKEY VALLEY C-LINER SIDEFRAMES ON THE TRUCKS WITH BRAKE CYLINDERS - MOTOR HAS BEEN BALANCED AND POLISHED AND CLEARANCED ERNST MACHINED GEARS ARE INSTALLED. NWSL NICKLE SILVER DRIVERS THAT HAVE BEEN NMRA GAUGED.
PROFESSIONALLY BUILT, TUNED AND PAINTED LOCO. PAINT IS A "LIGHTENED" GREEN TO SIMULATE FRESHLY PAINTED AND SCRUBBED LOCOS IN BRIGHT SUNLIIGHT THAT I (Original builder) REMEMBER FROM THE 40'S AND 50'S WHEN 8 PENNSY TRACKS RAN THROUGH OUR TOWN NEAR ALTOONA.
2) MDC/Roundhouse 60 Tonner Boxcab (CNJ #1000) CHASSIS CONFIGURED TO YEAR 2001 SPEC'S. DRILLED/MILLED FOR HARDWIRING. REGEARED WITH STOCK MDC GEARS. ALL PARTS SMOOTHED AND POLISHED. PRECISION ASSEMBLED. GEAR HOUSING SHAVED FOR CLEARANCE OF 321 MAGNETS, ROAD CROSSINGS, ETC. ENGINEERING PLASTIC PROBLEM RESOLVED. HIGH-TORQUE CAN MOTOR INSTALLED, MOTOR IS BRUSHLESS, SELF-LUB'D FOR LIFE. ISOLATED FROM FRAME - DCC COMPATABLE. A DECODER SHELF IS PROVIDED. CUSTOM NWSL PRECISION BRASS FLYWHEEL INSTALLED. NWSL #29 GAUGE (51 STRAND) SUPER FLEX STRANDED WIRE USED TO PROVIDE EIGHT- WHEEL POSITIVE VOLTAGE PICKUP. EXTRA WIRE-LENGTH IS PROVIDED TO EASE MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION - EXTRA WIRE LENGTH TAPED TO MOTOR JACKSHAFT WORM GEAR DIAMETER OF .310, .005 ABOVE MDC MINIMUM SPECS, FOR POSITIVE EIGHT WHEEL DRIVE. BACKLASH IN BOTH TRUCKS EQUALIZED TO MAINTAIN FIRM CONTACT WITH AXLE GEARS CHASSIS WILL CRAWL THROUGH PLASTIC FROG TURNOUTS AT LESS THAN 0.3 SCALE MPH. TWO-OUNCE + TOTAL WEIGHT ADDED - (1.25 OZ ON CHASSIS, .75 ON SHELL) 25.O % TOTAL INCREASE. WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION CENTERED OVER BOTH TRUCKS. KAYDEE #58 TRUE SCALE MAGNETIC COUPLERS INSTALLED WILL PULL 10" MINIMUM RADIUS UPON REQUEST
And before I run out the door with the fire licking at my heels...I should mention that the fella who built the second locomotive listed in this posting is an Electrical & Mechanical Engineer and along with the chassis I'm sending him to work on, I will be packing a Tyco PT motor and Truck assembly from one of my 630's. He has agreed to look into the whole PT engine replacement for me. The goal there; to have twin engine (one per truck) Tyco Loco's like my beloved Super 630's. If he comes up with a solution I'm going to look into creating a mass producable 630 Chassis plate to add real weight to that beauty.
[:o] my shoes are smoking, gotta run!!! [:o]

What a question!
I actually think I would grab my two rubbermaid bins of catalogs. Might consider grabbing my Hallmark brass El Captian Car too.
But if I'll call the catalog cases single items each, I'd grab those two things only.

Hi Tony:
It's really a restated "lifeboat" version of the questio "what's your favorite Model RR things or two in this case.!
Originally I used the question when I was teaching Grade 7 Religious Ed in NJ. at a Catholic Church. The syllabus was Moralty. So I called all the kids at home before the class which was in the evening and asked them if your house was on fire and you could grab only one thing in each hand and everyone else was out of the house...
It was about asking the kids what they valued. Their answers were pretty impressive.
Cheers, Gareth

Hey,
If I could only grab one thing it would likely be my DVDs of "Supertrain" as replacing them would be difficult and they mean a great deal to me.

I have 6 cats which are irreplaceable, 2 drumkits (both Tama) in cases valued at $10,000 together, a 5,000 watt P.A. system that is currently hooked up to my home theater system in the master bedroom HEH...HEH...HEH...it rivals THX...Yamaha, JBL, Mackie, Fender/JBL, Behringer, Furman Power Conditioner, and Digital Reference outboard gear, over 1000 CD's, several 36"x8"x6" tupperware containers of pictures, some of which go back over a century, my wife races and competes on a road bike and two XC mountain bikes (Titus, Cannondale and Specialized) all valued at $8,000 together...my GOD we are packrats!!!
Bye bye trains...no time to scoop any up...[:(]
I look at it this way...it would be a BLAST starting over again...collecting trains. Sometimes the hunt is better than the find. [:p]

Hmm… I don’t have a vault’s worth of investment-grade possessions. And there ARE certain items that would take precedent over any trains – like the ancient briefcase with much of my printed creative portfolio and paperwork, and backup DVDs of digital same. My grampa’s Bronze Star, and a couple other things.
As far as trains go…
I guess this is interesting: as attached and obsessed as I sometimes I think I am, I guess I’m not too terribly. Most of it, I could recreate or find again “eventually”. I suppose the display case with most of my kitbashed & weathered cars and locos would go.
But if for the spirit of the question, I could only take two pieces… (“That’s all you’re allowed on the Enterprise, ensign” [:P])… probably the commemorative Saint Canard Midland caboose I painted when Bethany was born… and… a certain highly-modified well-traveled BN boxcar [;)] that has occupied EVERY layout I have ever owned, built, or operated. But there are a number of superdetailed locos and cars I’ve done that are vying for my mind’s priority as I type this. So I’d probably be ripping those cases off the wall…
And then pushing my rolling-resto-wreck 1988 T-Bird out of harm’s way. That car shall not be lost, ever.

The two trains I would take???...that's a hard one. I'd probably take my President's Choice CP steam locomotive (my first engine), and my Tyco Canadiana Alco. Those are my two fav engines.

Hi All,
I think I would grab my Mantua Santa Fe cattle car as it was the first car I got when the Mantua/Tyco bug bit me. The second would be my FEC Spirit of 76 caboose with the backward blue white and red stripes as I am from Florida. I have yet to get a Tropicana car. Some day though.

Thanks for saving the T-Bird! I just sold off my "rolling-resto-wreck" last fall...a 1993 Lincoln Continental. It was dark maroon and I really loved it. It's general body favored your '88 T-Bird...that's one of the reasons I bought the Lincoln originally...it was like my 1988 T-Bird Turbo Coupe. I'll find a T-Bird calling my name one day and will have another heap sitting in the driveway. [:D]

I'd grab as much of my L&N stuff as I could (and it is ALL boxed together for such a situation).
Awww. Jeeze GiC, I need to come clean...[:I] I acquired ALOT of that junk I listed previously used and second-hand.
...HUD Foreclosures, live auctions...the ONLY 2 things that I purchased new up there were 1 of the 2 sets of Tama drums (1st new kit I've had in 15 years), and my wife's Titus Racer X XC mountain bike (she races in the DORBA and TMBRA series each spring/fall race season, and DESERVED a new pro-level bike...and one of her race sponsors is HOOTERS, LOL. [:D]
And NO...I am NOT going to post a pic of her. Buncha pervs. [:D]

Always wanted to try the auction / estate sales thing. Trouble is I never have a large enough bank at any given time. But I've been pretty fortunate in the small ponds, I think. Snag a pike or two.
Just ONE of two things I wish I hadn't "given up", is bike riding. Oh man could I have taken all comers about 10 years ago, on any POS no less. You'd never know it today. But there is no greater feeling than passing cars on a bike. [:D] Unfortunately, it's a bit of a death wish to try that where I live now. (insert a ton of other lame excuses here. I don't know what happened).
