I just bought a batch, #20, LL knuckle couplers that are designed to fit Tyco type coupler boxes. The coupler has the whiskers for the spring action and a small hole in the shank to fit Tycos and other coupler boxes. I still have horn hook on most of my Tyco but have knuckles on my kit rolling stock, etc. This would certianly be reversable if you wanted to sell your "stock" Tyco car.
I paid $6.50 for 20 and the 4 pack was $3.00.
These won't work in your KD boxes without modification.

Hey AF:

Will they couple/UN-C with Kadee's?

Another option is the adapter Kadee makes for the truck mounted talgo couplers.

Hi:

Actually Iwas more interested in whether they could hookup with the existing units (Kadee's and other knuckle couplers)

They have an uncoupling bar/hook just like the popular brands and are sprung to open and shut, couple/uncouple. I don't know why they wouldn't be compatible with other brands. They're as easy to install as regular tyco horn hooks. No need to modify anything, no extra parts involved. Remove old coupler, install new knuckle coupler. [:D]

Here's a pic of the couplers. I put one in the VGN hopper in less than a minute. I ran it with a loco with the old style brass box spring KD coupler and it pulled well. Once I removed it from the track I noticed the whisker on one side was hung-up on the Tyco coupler box. I tried to trim it and couldn't cut it with my pocket knife but when installed again it sprung ok to both sides of the coupler box.

Being that the coupler is centered in the truck,I'll bet there's less of a chance that derailments will happen.
The horn hook couplers when coupled put sideways tension on the trucks making them prone to derailing over switches, and reverse moves.

simple comment...

put knuckle couplers on one end and hornhooks on the other ends.
Save from having to convert your entire rollingstock to one or the other. Also allows you to use any vintage or brand-new locomotives to pull the load.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.

They do go in easy and pull fine. They seem to spring better to one side than the other and this might cause problems if you're into proto operation.
If your local hobby shop, LHS, doesn't have them maybe Tony Cook has a lead since I think he's associated with a hobby shop.

AF, did you get those couplers at your LHS? I don't think my LHS has them, but I'm sure they would order them. They look like a quick way to make talgo equipment Kadee compatible without doing something irreversible.

Nelson,
The LHS owner had just received them and pointed them out to me. The 4 pack was $3 and the 20 pack was $6.50. I think the regular horn hooks by LL are $4.
You're right making talgo equip KD compatible.
