I attended a train show several weeks ago outside of Pittsburgh, and just now am getting around to posting some stuff.

I picked up what turned out to be another Mantua/Tyco trolley lettered “Broadway”:

I forgot that I just recently got the “Broadway” trolley!  They both have their trolley poles though, so if necessary, I can swap one onto another trolley that needs one.

had this custom made from that tyco Soo Line boxcar

Also this one I KNEW I wasn't crazy when I seen this BAR boxcar that usually has Products on it with POTATOES on it!

think I read why it was changed to Products was there was a potato blight, crop failure or something like that to change it

Also Why do I have 2 Tyco Purina Chugg-Chugg Hi-Cube bopxcars?

I added to the quad hopper collection.  Here’s the black version of Lionel’s Alaska RR quad:

Yes, that’s a nasty crack in the side.

Here’s a second iteration of a Bachmann in L&N livery:

If I remember correctly, this is a Fleischman:

My first Fleischman.

Bachmann:

I don’t think I have this one already.

AHM:

I don’t think I already have this one either.

….and another Tyco Union Pacific 40ft HiCube:

This is sort of a new tangent — two versions of Tyco’s plug door RailBox:

Silver roof and ends:

Yellow roof and ends:

I got these two because they were available and I happen to already have the later simplified version. So now I have a complete set.

That Missouri Pacific hopper is actually HObbyline. Lionel ended up buying some molds from HObbyline when they went under, and the quad hopper is one of them. Because of this, that black Alaska hopper is nearly identical!

Other things Lionel bought the molds to were the 0-4-0 tank engine, the 0-4-0 W/ slopeback tender (modified to be an 0-6-0, and later a 2-4-2), the ALCo FA diesel, the 10 panel 40 foot gondola (not to be confused with the similar looking Marx 10 panel, the American Flyer 10 panel or Tyco/Mantua 11 panel), the single dome tank car (Lionel added a platform around the dome to make it a chemical tank car), and the 40 foot boxcar (in addition to being used for normal boxcars it was also used for the exploding boxcar & the minuteman car).

I compared the Mopac and Alaska hoppers and they are almost identical.  Lionel added some strengthening to the corner steps, resized the hole for the brake wheel, and made changes to install a different underframe.  But the odd thing is Lionel relocated the mold’s gate from the bottom to the inside, and changed its design.

A visit to a train show in Austintown on Sunday netted these slippery items:

My fourth Tyco Canadiana boxcar:

This one is very nice.

My fourth example of a Tyco Virginian quad hopper with the wrong Tampo:

This one is missing a corner step.  In fact, I only have one example that does have all its corner steps.

A quad hopper lettered for Santa Fe:

This one is unmarked, but I’m guessing it’s Model Power, because it’s mold quality is comparable to other Model Power quad hoppers I’ve seen.

Three more Mantua/Tyco operating hoppers:

The Virginians came in a 3 for $5 deal with the Santa Fe hopper above — couldn’t pass that up!  The Spreckel’s came cheap too, so I wasn’t worried about the missing roof.  So now I have at least 11 Spreckel’s and at least 14 Virginian operating hoppers.

I just searched through this thread for every operating hopper I’ve posted, and determined that I have at least 67 of them so far…

…I don’t think that’s enough!

Nope, Lionels factory from 1929 to 1974 was in Hillside, although most production had been moved out in 1967. The 2 companies only interacted in 1958 when Athearn was making HO models for Lionel, and they had Atlas make the track, in 1959 Lionel started making their own HO track. Lionel's headquarters however was in New York City from the beginning (1900) to 1969, when it was moved to Michigan. Their service department was in neighboring Irvington NJ (also the home of Lionel's factory from 1917-1933), which was also moved to Michigan about a decade after the headquarters. The Lionel factory address is 28 Sager Place, Atlas' current address is 378 Florence Ave (only half a mile away)

Sweet grabs, Ben!

Having recovered from broken ribs, a ruptured lung, I then managed to cut my ear in half and
sustain a debilitating fracture to my arm but a few weeks later. And yes, I was quite sober at
both times. One minute your up and about, the next instant of inattention, you're doing a face
plant.

Two friends helped me to set up Armadilloville in a newly acquired spare bedroom while I was
busy flailing my one working arm to transfer the layout and boxes and boxes of Tyco stuff
from the freezing garage. These boxes represent what is left after I thinned the herd on eBay
of hundreds of duplicates. The madness never stops!

I attended a TCA show near Pittsburgh last weekend, and even though Lionel and American Flyer are their thing, I did manage to find some HO to send me further down the slope.

First up, quad hoppers!

The Rock Island is Bachmann, and even though you’ll find this “same” car on the first page of this thread, close inspection will reveal they are from different tooling.  The Peabody is IHC, made in Slovenia if I remember correctly.  Mehano maybe?  It resembles some Model Power production, and very late Tyco production.

Next up, another Tyco United States Steel bulkhead flat:

This is my 3rd (4th?, 5th?) example lettered for U. S. Steel.

Next, yet another Varney/Life-Like flatcar:

This is SLSF example #6.

My 2nd example of Bachmann’s BASF Wyandotte triple dome tanker:

My 2nd example of Tyco’s Union Pacific 62ft HiCube:

My 2nd example of Tyco’s Nob Hill trolley, and my 9th Tyco trolley overall:

I bought this trolley along with two freight cars for only $10.  Vendors typically want $20+ for a trolley alone.  Maybe it was because it was a TCA show.

…and more Mantua/Tyco operating hoppers!

My 8th (at least) Holly Sugar hopper:

I found this one loose in a “junk box” of miscellaneous cars, and yet it is one of the most pristine cars I have ever found!

And my 5th Burlington hopper:

For some reason I had it in my mind that the Burlington hopper was one of the most common hopper cars out there.  I probably would’ve ranked it 3rd most common, after Virginian and B&M.  I was surprised to find out how few I had!

I went to the Canfield, Ohio toy and train show yesterday — more sliding occurred.

The TOHD was alive and well!

A couple of Virginians:

This makes at least 16 Virginians I have now, but still not a single one with the missing logo.

2 more Monon hoppers:

I think this makes 8 Monon hoppers I have.

A Pennsylvania and a B&M:

I think this is only the 5th Pennsy hopper I’ve acquired, and I now have at least 9 B&M hoppers.

…and I picked up 4 Burlington hoppers:

Now I have 9 of these.

Also from the Canfield show, 4 more Mantua/Tyco trollies:

This is the 1st Beal Street trolley I’ve come across, so it had to come home with me, for $10.  Its trolley pole came from one of the other three.

I already had a couple of the Main Street trolleys, but couldn’t pass this one up for $5.

I also already had 2 Broadway trolleys and 2 Nob Hill trolleys, but these were offered to me free of charge by the vendor, he said because no one wants them and he wanted them gone.

All of them are MU2 powered.

I picked up a 2nd Mantua/Tyco 40ft Penneys boxcar at the Canfield show:

I believe my other one is a bit grimy (but it might clean up). It’s also missing a corner step, while this one has all 4.

On the Mantua/Tyco 40ft reefer front, I scored a 3rd Kraft example:

For some reason, I’ve had a difficult time finding these in the wild, and I’ve been looking since 2013!

This is another Mantua/Tyco reefer I’ve struggled to find:

I already have one example that took me 8 years to find out in the wild, but its paint is partially faded or discolored, so I’ve been looking for a better one ever since.  I’ve found 2 or 3 since, but they’ve all had missing corner steps or some other flaw.  I finally found this one at the Canfield show on Saturday.
