Is this TYCO gondola with plastic trucks an authentic red box item? It has cast metal bottom.

Yes, I'm pretty sure they are original. I have a few cars with plastic trucks myself. If I had to guess, this would be late red box item.

I also have some Tyco with metal underframes and snap-in plastic trucks. I believe they are genuine.
